  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

What would you be willing to pay for a paint color?

My suggestion for Scout - try and get a custom paint shop set up in the supplier park. Offer the Scouts in a few standard paint colors for typical buyers and provide a link to the paint shop's price sheet. Or get a custom wrap shop in the supplier park for those folks that want even more options.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

The new F150 EREV will not need a big battery or a big engine to get 700 miles - it just needs a big gas tank. I notice that none of the articles about the Ford F150 EREV have any info about battery size or pure electric range. So we don't know how much of that 700 miles comes from batteries...

Bi-directional Charging / Home Power Backup

Why would they need to partner with anyone? From my point of view, if you have a V2L connection (which Scout has already said they will have) you can use it with any power station on the market - no integration necessary.

Current EV owners…are you staying BEV or switching to Harvester?

Sounds like "The Truth About Electric Towing" video from Aging Wheels. That video was a real eye opener for me as well.

    My Perfect Build (Personal Opinion)

Solid state is still vaperware - lots of promises but still no real consumer options for the car industry. Sodium batteries are not really an option right now or in the near future (say five years out). If you want details Undecided with Matt Ferrell did a nice YouTube video about the current...

    EREV initial release only?

This is the main takeaway I wanted to hear. Notice he said "get EREV to market sooner rather than later." He did not say "EREV first". Based on everything I have seen, I am guessing that the initial plan was that the BEV would be released first and the EREV would follow much later (probably a...

Scout vehicles for emergency response vehicle applications

Are emergency light bars, bumper lights, and sirens typically added by the automotive vendor, or are after-market companies adding these things to vehicles? I know I have seen those type of add-ons at a truck supply store, so I always assumed it was after-market. Since Scouts are designed for...

    A Gift From Scout Motors

I'm thinking the Scout Motor's gift will arrive either Memorial Day (May) or Independence Day (July), since this is an American company.

    Snowstorm 2026

We got around 16" over the weekend. My new snowblower died while clearing after an earlier storm, so I am back to shoveling. I did not have time last night to do more than clear a path from the door to the road. Hopefully I can take off early today and get more done.

Help me decide BEV or EREV

If you have not seen it yet, you might find it helpful to look at the info I posted about using a BEV to provide backup power for my house: https://community.scoutmotors.com/threads/using-an-ev-for-backup-power-in-case-of-power-outage.7455/ IMHO, an EV is better because it will last a lot...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

The article says it applies to "new Model 3 and Model Y orders." So they are not taking it away from people that already have a Tesla. They are just not offering it (auto-steer) as a standard feature on new cars now. That said, making auto-steer a subscription option is a really terrible...

    Off-topic stuff…

I'm in an area that is forecast to get 8-12" of snow this weekend as well. I am stocked up, charged up, and will be hunkered down.

    Tdi

Several people have asked for an non-BEV version. Scout Motors has already replied to those requests indicating they have no plans to introduce a non-BEV version of the Traveler or Terra. They also said the generator in the EREV will have a naturally aspirated 4-cylender engine. So, no chance of...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

You cannot use an outlet connected to the transfer switch to send power to the other outlets of a transfer switch. A transfer switch has a dedicated inlet for sending power into it, you must use that. If you wire up a 30amp outlet on the transfer switch for charging your EV, and then use a...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

@chucchinchilla If you want to set up to use a 240V source as backup power during a power outage, install a transfer switch or other approved solution. Using a 240V outlet to send power into your house during a power outage without a proper cut-off switch (called in interlock) is called...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

That is extremely dangerous and almost certainly illegal. If you run power from an outlet into your power panel during a power outage without a proper cut-off switch (called in interlock), you are putting the the utility workers in danger. Do a search for "electrical backfeeding" to see what I...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

NO. You cannot safely use a 240V outlet to provide power to your house during a power outage. In order to provide power into a transfer switch, you use a completely different connection that runs into the transfer switch. The transfer switch guarantees that you don't "back feed" power into the...

Factory Pick Up - Cost and what does it include?

Another thing to keep in mind - inspections. If your state requires yearly car inspections, with an in-state purchase the dealer will handle the car's inspection for the first year. If you buy out-of-state, you are responsible for the getting (and paying for) the inspection yourself.

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

In my opinion, for your situation where you often get power outages, I would not suggest a V2H solution. There are many disadvantages to a V2H solution, the main three being: high cost and they require professional installation limited availability and most are proprietary solutions the vehicle...
