  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Any chance on flat four?

Something Fuel Injected and Naturally Aspirated, with lots of parts availability for easy repair, seems right up Scout’s alley (especially for repairability)

    Any chance on flat four?

If that's from the same Edmunds interview I remember, Keogh said it was "likely" that it would be sourced from "Somewhere" within VWAG. Not a confirmation; leaving the door open for others, but yeah, likely a VW group engine (which Rotax isn't; they're owned by BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co KG, under...

    Any chance on flat four?

Just a minor correction here; there are a number of Air-Cooled Flat-4's still in production. Some are even seeing new development in that field. Lycoming still makes the O-360 Series of 6 Liter, four-cylinder, direct-drive, horizontally opposed, air-cooled engine. They come in Carbureted...

    Free charge

Just to give you some sense of "scale" for how much juice it takes to drive any BEV/PHEV around: Let's assume you could somehow fit 750 Watts of Solar on a truck tonneau cover. This, by the way, is VERY optimistic; some space will be lost to the trifold mechanism, the edges of the bed and...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

I've driven a number of different regen systems for EV's and PHEV's. Toyota's system of "Brake-by-wire" / Regen on the brake pedal is the best for "new to EV" drivers to use. The car/computer does some regen when lifting the gas pedal (iirc on the 2008 Prius, it's about 2kW of Regen, to...

Traveler Ultimate Wish List for Scout Motors

I want to say at one point, someone (Honda?) held a patent on a blind-spot camera appearing in the instrument cluster or media display when the turn signal was actuated, and that's part of why it's not more widespread (licensing that patent costs money).

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Bear in mind, these statistics from BTS are Single-Trip, i.e. One-Way distance: Importantly: “A movement with multiple stays of longer than 10 minutes before returning home is counted as multiple trips.” The statistics give a good idea for sure, but with so many of the trips being in the...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

While my average "Single Trip" is probably less than 25 miles (somewhere in the 20 range), My "time between chargers" is closer to 100-150 on some days. I know I'm certainly in the minority, but I have multiple work sites I have to go between -- sometimes all of them in a day, which can add up...

    Amateur radio antenna mount

The Prius (mine is a 2008) definitely does while the HV Inverter is in operation. It's hilariously RF-noisy pretty much anywhere around the 6-meter band (50 MHz) and below. And it's wideband interference, not something easy to notch or filter out. Worth noting: The car doesn't have any problems...

    Amateur radio antenna mount

Well you can take it to Ham radio gatherings. Then you get to hear the rarest phrase in the English lexicon: "That's the coolest Prius ever!"

    Amateur radio antenna mount

Even if we (understandably, for a niche market) can't have "pre-made" amateur radio/antenna hardpoints, it would be nice if Scout could follow Mazda's example. Mazda specifically has a section for Electromagnetic compatibility in the manual (pictured); it would be nice to have a similar section...

    Amateur radio antenna mount

The Prius has a super slick little area above the spare tire in the cabin. I added a plate and filled mine with all the batteries/heads/tuner/computers (for data modes). Frunk would also probably be a pretty easy addition and would be long, but not impossible, to route to from the tire carrier.

    240V Outlet on Traveller

I'll add a +100 to having a 240v outlet (or at least 120v@30A) on the Traveler (Be it in the frunk or in the interior somewhere). It'd be super handy for towing a camper/travel trailer somewhere, and then being able to power it off of the Scout itself once parked up, instead of having to lug...
