  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

But they're removing hundreds of pounds of battery where they're adding the engine, so it's not a net gain of the total engine weight.

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

"A small trailer that is >5k lbs" means "a small trailer that is greater than 5k lbs." The mnemonic device for the '<' and '>' symbols is that the open "mouth" points towards the larger item because it is hungry. Make your middle school teacher proud :)

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

Great comment from experience, thanks for sharing. Any BEV should be able to run a campsite for weeks, as you said. Although, if you're running AC, that probably drops quite a bit. I'm also thinking of the use case of towing an off-road camper deep into the wilderness. With a third or half...

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

That is a really fair point for highway towing - I agree that a lot of range anxiety is overblown. The Harvester has so many cool benefits for boondocking and adventuring. If you have an offroad trailer and get deep into the boonies, from my perspective, the Harvester is a must.

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

It would not, because I need the extended range - especially when towing. As in my OP, towing is specifically the time I would need range, and also specifically when range is most impacted.

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

If towing were my main use case, sure, that would do the trick. My main use case is driving an SUV around town on battery power most of the time, taking road trips frequently, off-roading occasionally, and hauling a small trailer that is >5k lbs occasionally. A Traveler meets the use case...

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

Good morning. Yup, I posted this on Facebook and someone pointed out that the power output of the Harvester is the likely limitation. That seems like a really easy solve. They could let us be adults and manage our range, pulling over to "Harvest" or stopping to recharge as needed...

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

Those are some big assumptions. If I want to tow something that is >5k lbs but <7k lbs, I need at least 7k lbs of towing capacity. Many, many travel trailers and boats fall in this range. If I needed to tow a 30+ foot trailer pushing 5 tons, I will buy a big diesel pickup, tyvm.

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

No freak out here. I'm going based off the latest from Scout. If they change their tune, great. My point above is that they should avoid making a mistake while they still have the opportunity. I don't need a vehicle that is optimized for towing. I don't want or need a pickup truck. I currently...

Thanks cyure. I’ve been here awhile, just a lurker.

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

Scout Motors almost has the winning formula for bringing a truck/SUV to market that solves all the big EV truck objections. With the Harvester gas range extender motor, owners can still do the towing and long distance road trips that the family car demands without a second thought, while still...

    Harvester towing

Thank you. Yeah, I understand the final numbers are TBD. However, this is the suggestion box, and Scout monitors this forum, so I'm adding my feedback / a data point as a likely consumer if their product meets my needs. Scott Keogh himself quoted the 5k capacity for Harvester models in his...

    Harvester towing

Throwing my hat in the ring as another person who will probably back out if the Traveler Harvester has significantly lower towing capabilities than the Traveler EV. The whole point of the Harvester is that it solves the weak spot of EVs for road trips and adventuring: Range. EV range is...

What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

Lots of mention of CarPlay and Android Auto… I’ll specifically say wireless CarPlay. Some people say no autonomous driving, but I disagree. I think semi-self driving on the highway is a huge boon to making an excellent road trip car. That is lane keep assist, adaptive cruise, and ideally hands...
