  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

winch, stairs/sliders, wheel in the front trunk, mobile sunroof

Just curious: Does anyone know how much the ZF eBeam rear axle weighs? Or maybe even more relevant, what's the additional approximate weight over an HD Dana 60 rear axle? Thx

BTW, fun fact: The new Australia designed Ford Ranger Raptor (not the F150 which is designed in the US) uses a Watts Link to center the rear axle and avoid side motion at high off road speeds with substantial suspension flex. It works really well...

And one more piece of advice: Stay away from any diesel engines with emission control systems. My newest truck which I still own is a 2002!

My only Ford experience has been with their full-size HD 4x4 Diesel Pickups and they have been decent after a few well known upgrades.

Ahh, now we are talking quality! Well, in terms of long term reliability, Toyota is probably still hard to beat. Take our 2000 LC 100 - see picture below from Death Valley: We bought it in 2007 with 100,000 miles and fast forward 18 years and another 170,000 miles and it is still going...

Fair points, and yes, business considerations always carry significant weight when making product decisions, and it might indeed be too late for a significant design change at this point. Let’s look at two interesting cases of recent high-Profile new SUV introductions: the Ford Bronco and...

Just adding a couple of thoughts here as I have built several serious overland trucks over the last 30+ years. The first was an 1985 F350 which we upgraded to the 7.3L IDI (not Powerstroke) Banks Turbodiesel and a 5spd ZF transmission and ARB lockers front and rear and kept it for 25 years...

suggestion for front shape, Traveler may be

Sorry to be direct to the originator of this thread: This is not the purpose of the Scout as I understand it. I like the traditional shape a lot, and with a well placed front camera one can mitigate the compromised view immediately in front of the vehicle. If you want aerodynamics then there...

    Accessory Partners

I totally agree. There is no point for Scout to develop aftermarket bumpers, rock sliders or roof racks. Specialized firms will always do it better and e.g. for rook racks there are several excellent system already available like FrontRunner from South Africa or Rhino racks. We have Front...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

I hear you and I disagree and here is why: We are only talking about the solid rear axle not the front IFS. Moreover, the bare bones Slate truck has a DeDion rear axle because it makes sense: motor on the frame, independent wheels tied together with an empty axle shaft. the low end Slate...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

Hi, I am concerned that the rear eAxle as presented so far will show a high unsprung weight which leads to a poor ride off-road. Probably okay for on road operation. Is Scout considering a Heavy Duty DeDion set up? Here is an implementation in the Mowag Duro truck - designed in the 1990's and...

Interesting article about the engineering underneath the new Scouts

Fun fact: I just discovered that the new low cost EV mini truck called "Slate" uses a De Dion rear axle. Somehow they must have concluded that this is a cost effective solution even for a very basic vehicle. I agree with what was stated several times on this forum: Let's wait and see what...

Interesting article about the engineering underneath the new Scouts

Hello everyone, I am new to the group, but not new to off-roading and overlanding. We currently own a well equipped Landcruiser 100 and I am building up an 2002 F250 7.3L Powerstroke, and I always had a sweet spot for Scouts but never owned one (yet)! Regarding the combination of IFS with a...
