  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

The 2nd gen Rivians apparently have Autonomy separated: "For the second generation of vehicles, four categories get their own ECUs: infotainment, autonomy, vehicle access, drive units, and its battery management system. Every other vehicle function is controlled by just three ECUs Rivian refers...

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I do agree with some of what you are saying, but let me give some context on where the concerns come from. I am only talking about this from the perspective of handsfree driving, if someone is doing something as simple as stealing or burglarizing a vehicle then these apply as well, but are...

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

If the hardware is there, then it would be in the vehicle either way. It would still just be a software configuration that decides who controls the vehicle.

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I meant at the voltage level. I should have worded whatever I said better. I would strongly prefer being able to physically disable any hands free diving higher than LII.

The truck is already a robot, lol.

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

counterpoint: I have taken over vehicles as a demo for work (in a controlled environment). This isn't speculation, it can be done, and in the wrong hands it can be a pretty big problem. I just want to be double sure that I can offline a feature, not in software, but at the voltage level.

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I'd want a physical switch (or a discrete LRU to unplug) that physically disables any hands-free diving capability. I don't even want situation where I need to trust the software to disable hands-free driving. I'm sure that there are conditions where it...

    Optional PIN to Drive Feature

2 factor. Something you have and something you know... I like it.

Scout-specific and general EV thoughts from my weekend with a Hummer, as an ICE enthusiast

I feel like I'm late to this thread, but I like to point out that 1pd isn't any more efficient than without it. You lose ~20% of the energy on regen. Inertia management is always going to outperform regen. Also, other than panic braking, regen is going to happen when one uses the brake pedal...

winch, stairs/sliders, wheel in the front trunk, mobile sunroof

I was picturing a 45 degree angle, but I haven't seen one in person yet. It's a big heavy tire, so anywhere it goes will be a pain in someone's neck.

winch, stairs/sliders, wheel in the front trunk, mobile sunroof

I really do like the idea of the frunk plastics at least having the right shape so that the spare could fit in there for people that want that. I have no idea how that would work if it's in a crumple zone or something like that.

    Mothball Mode

Yeah, I've spent considerable time RE EV's from companies that went bankrupt. It's fun and all, but I wouldn't want that *have* to do that, and certainly not on my main vehicle. I could go for a $10k Ocean myself, if you find a source, let me know, I'll do the same...

    Mothball Mode

I have mixed feelings about OTA updates. Updates are great, but if the company fails/discontinues service, you can end up with more problems than you wanted. Aside from it being a security/opsec nightmare, it can create a situation where the engineers rely on it to the point where without...

    Mothball Mode

I would have to assume if Rivian is doing the, then it's at least on the radar for Scout.

    Mothball Mode

That was kind of my plan for "winterizing". I didn't know that this was an automatic function for some vehicles. I think that's great. I hope that the vehicles with the harvester will leverage the batteries and computer systems to keep the harvester healthy. Thanks for the info.

    Mothball Mode

One mode that I haven't seen talked about here, is a mothball mode. I often say that any good vehicle spends most of its life as an old vehicle. EV's and hybrids seem to really not like long periods of disuse, but it's an inevitability over the lifetime of a vehicle. I'd really like to see...

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

but that's a tongue weight reduction, right?

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

I really strongly agree that requiring a driver to pull over to let the harvester catch up under heavy towing is perfectly fine. If someone doesn't run into this, they'll never know, and if they do run into it, they'll just be glad they can still get there. We all know that are concessions...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

For me personally, not having the ability to disable one pedal driving would be one of the few things that would (possibly) stop me from buying a scout. I just re-affirmed how little I like it on my last drive because of this thread. It does remind me of driving an RX-7 with a broken clutch...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

I would think that an off-road focused vehicle would require the ability to disable one pedal driving. Automatic Regen rather than the ability to coast seems like it's an accident waiting to happen. On-road, I have less of an opinion, I almost never use it, and my wife only does one pedal driving.
