  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Interesting Offroad Behavior of a Lightning

The nearby forest where we are has a lot of great 4x4 / jeep trails with rocky sections. No photos because (luckily) everyone was in the Lightning. On the way up one road, there was enough cross-axle terrain that we were on three wheels multiple times. There was a lot of loose, fist-sized...

Why the door handles/locks should not be purely electric...

I’m certain Scout Motors is paying close attention to all the things in the automotive world. That said, there’s been a trend of manufacturers going toward all-electric in everything, re-inventing things like door handles for no good reason, just to “disrupt” the space, apparently without any...

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

Instead of working I’m thinking about wildly irresponsible ideas for EVs. With the Harvester, the vehicle will be capable of charging while driving. It’s highly unlikely in my opinion that the Harvester will use a separate converter to charge the battery while driving. It would make little...

I Recently Rented a Gas Vehicle—Here’s my Review

This is a satirical, yet mostly accurate review of having to rent a gas-fueled vehicle for a week after years of mostly EV only driving… I recently was on travel and the car rental place didn't have any normal cars, so I had to rent a gas vehicle. I figured it couldn't be that hard; lots of...

Wisconsin Historical Society International harvester Collection

For those of you interested in the IH of yore... The Wisconsin Historical Society has a collection of International Harvester information, including a 1963-1973 pickup series specifications. https://content.wisconsinhistory.org/digital/collection/ihc/id/35528/rec/22

EV Charging solution without having to upgrade your electrical service entrance panel.

Tom Moloughney traveled to Starksboro, Vermont to record the first ConnectDER EV meter socket adapter installation in the state. This device will allow many people to install an electric vehicle charger at home who otherwise couldn't, due to the capacity constraints of their home electric service.

Solar-Ready package (especially for the Traveler)

One of the great things about taking an EV camping is the silence. You can run all the things-electric from the vehicle without having to listen to a generator. But, one of the challenges of camping with an EV is that some trips are more difficult when you’re going out boondocking far from...

    Long Way...

If you haven't seen Long Way Up with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, it's a fun, 15,000 mile trip from the southern tip of South America (Ushuaia, Argentina) to Los Angeles, CA. It was filmed in 2019. They ride Harley Davidson Live Wire electric motorcycles (prototypes). In addition to the...

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

My partner and I recently took a trip up to Moab for a long weekend. We only have EVs, so I thought this would be a good time to test out how a long wheelbase, full-sized pickup does on trails I've done in a Tacoma. The F-150 Lightning is not a rock crawler. I don't think either the Traveler or...

    33 Months of EV driving...

This is my summary of our EV driving. We've been driving EVs for most driving since February 2022 when we picked up our Ford Mustang Mach-E (43,791 miles). We went all-EV in April of 2024 when we traded our Tacoma for a Lightning (11,748 miles). We've been to 10 states, and plan to go to at...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I'm not going to volunteer anyone else for this, but I also didn't want to exclude anyone by writing it in the singular. If you own an EV, you're welcome to answer questions in this thread or in your own. If you have a question, please feel free to ask. I reserve the right to ignore your...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

I was chatting about sections of my the road trip I'm on right now in another thread and it was suggested that I start a separate thread so it's easier to find this content. My partner and I are on a 3,000+ mile road trip right now. We went from northern Arizona to the Los Angeles area, spent...

Charge port at front, passenger side

Please don't fall for the hype about the rear driver side being the best place for the charge port. It's far more useful to have it at the front passenger side. It still makes it easy to use the NACS chargers with their super short cables. With it being in the front passenger, only one NACS...
