  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

I've found three great interview videos also. Besides the well known Motor Trend interview I found another with Scott Keogh and one with Chris Benjamin. Let me know if you don't have them and I'll dig up references. I get enthused binging on Scout info, ignoring all politics.

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

Daunting at first, the big thing is to understand that there is a charging curve and how to adapt to it. I'm sure once Scouts start shipping we will see YouTube videos of charging tests. The Silverado EV test is in a YouTube video by Out of Spec Reviews, posted in April 2024. The title starts...

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

In the same estimates I mentioned above I came up with just over 200 miles between charging the BEV, driving from 80% to 20% then recharging to 80%. The point there is to not drive down too close to zero and recharge in the portion of the charging curve where you actually get fast charging. Even...

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

They haven't said so super clearly but that is the implication, and the most sensible/useful approach. In Harvester mode the generator runs as needed to keep the battery in a reasonable SOC, you need the battery for full power. The generator needs to be big enough to do that over typical long...

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

This is a great idea, modes as a named collection of settings. Defaults are set at the factory, they can be tweaked by the user and remembered. Experts can set what they want. Novices can experiment to learn what the various settings do.

    Harvester towing

We considered the Pathfinder Rock Creek in early 2023, ended up buying our Pilot Trailsport. At that time the Pathfinder recommended premium fuel but it was fine to use regular for a loss of a few hp. But that is with a normally aspirated engine. The new Armada is twin turbo, do they get along...

winch, stairs/sliders, wheel in the front trunk, mobile sunroof

No, I was just being brain dead and thinking I don't want a compressor in the engine compartment. Took me a few minutes to realize there is no engine compartment. I'll have to watch the reveal again. I think I recall a compressor in the Terra bed but missed one in the Traveler.

    Traveler without rear tire carrier

I missed the never been done part. I wonder if they are going for a fully integrated system with a heat pump to cool and heat the interior, batteries, electric motors, and ICE. With flexible heat exchangers they could move heat from one component to another. Like out of the electric motors or...

    Harvester towing

Thank you for your service. I kind of agree with J Alynn but for different reasons. I hope this comes across as helpful and not a downer. The Terra (BEV certainly or Harvester probably) will have the towing capacity and can provide power for the trailer. Maybe you can fit the family with two...

    Harvester towing

He did not use the work "both". They were standing next to the Traveler, looking at it. I'm still believing that he misspoke, that the Traveler Harvester will be around 5000 and the Terra Harvester will be around 8000. May 9 update: Listening more carefully in a rewatch of the Jay Leno...

    Harvester towing

At the start did you really mean the Terra (truck)? The trailer GVWR is beyond even the BEV Traveler's anticipated 7000 lbs. So far the NEMA 14-50 is only on the Terra, no sign of a 240V outlet on the Traveler. But a 30A shore power hookup is only 3600W, the NEMA 5-20 plug at the charge port can...

winch, stairs/sliders, wheel in the front trunk, mobile sunroof

The spare in the frunk is an interesting idea. I wonder how big a tire will fit? Maybe even a compact spare for daily use, mount the full size on the back when needed. Since we always back in to park, a spare in the frunk and easy access to the back is great for groceries, etc. But for those who...

winch, stairs/sliders, wheel in the front trunk, mobile sunroof

Would a hitch mounted winch solve that with less weight? Would need a front receiver of course. I do hope the Traveler gets an optional compressor. For me that would be more convenient in the back. (Five minutes later ... I take back the part about the compressor in the back, I'm fine with...

    Fun with energy use numbers

I agree this is all a wag until real vehicles are tested. I used the 20-80 range as a guess of staying in the better part of the charging curve. A 100% to 10% test is fine for a single leg trip but not useful for minimum time road tripping. Two of the tests I mentioned were below maximum...

Sorry, I hope at least the summary portion was understandable?

What is More Important? - EV Charge Time or EV Range

Your comment and the recent charger map posts inspired me to write my "Fun with energy use numbers" post, trying to get some estimates of road trip behavior from what we know so far. I'm still in the Harvester camp, but with a much more open mind. I'll have to set up some Google map trips of...

    Fun with energy use numbers

OK, this is really long, you have to be a serious number geek to call this fun. I’ve been hard core “gotta have a Harvester for towing”, but some recent threads have me reevaluating. The charging infrastructure is not there today for what we do, but might it be there in three years when we take...

Should There Be an EV "Tax Penalty"?

Obnoxious insults aside, roads need maintenance and that costs money. It is reasonable for some portion of that to be usage based.

Should There Be an EV "Tax Penalty"?

This is a really interesting question. I don't know, but do gas taxes go towards road maintenance? If so that is a more equitable usage based model. EVs are heavier so might be expected to contribute more wear to the roads. Should there be an EV charger use tax to make things fair? A tax on...

The gas tank needs to be bigger on the Harvester models

Personally I disagree with the "need" part. I'm not at all saying you are wrong, I just have a different opinion. Great if the extra volume comes from unused space, but not if it means a smaller battery. We will spend about 80% of our Traveler's miles towing, 10,000+ miles per year. We...
