  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I'm jealous, 2700 driving miles home to Blythewood.

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

I was wondering about that. The general HVAC heat pump will be more efficient at producing BTU, but it will heat the air and maybe have higher losses through the windows and bodywork? A radiant heater in the footwell region is less efficient at producing BTU but some of the heat is directly...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Again personal bias, but the big thing for me is that Walmart said pull through chargers are part of the plan. Not all pull through, but at least some. Coming in, unhooking the trailer at the outskirts of the parking lot, then heading over to an EA charger in the middle would be a hassle. Oh...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I sure hope so. From purely personal bias though I hope they don't build out first in the highly populated areas. I hope they do the underserved rural areas first. Lots of companies can and do provide charging around population centers. I want better options when traveling around the rural west.

What do you all do? Curious about Scout buyers occupations, or former occupations.

I was not in the military, working for SofTech, a civilian company in the CPFF (Cost Plus Fixed Fee) govenment contracting game. I was at Adobe from 2001 through 2012 so before and after the subscription rollover. I appreciate the customer side and am honestly biased because my Apple and Adobe...

Back in those days it was all one off CPUs and thus compilers. IIRC there was actually a detonate instruction, this was around 1980. I worked for SofTech near Boston, the military side was at Wright Patterson AFB near Dayton. We had to do all the development using TI Silent 700 terminals over...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Welcome! I’ll be interested to hear why you think the Harvester will be really complex. Seems like the genset will be much simpler than a mechanical drivetrain, hooking it to the existing DC power structure is not mechanically complex. The genset ICE should take less maintenance than in an ICE...

You have my respect. I spent 35 years as one of those cats.

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

Yeah, so far we’ve gotten along fine never using a car’s builtin nav for those and other reasons. While not perfect Apple and Google are vastly more reliable. It seems that with EVs though you only get the good charger planning with the builtin nav. I hope Apple and Google can get better about...

@MasterSpam @SpaceEVDriver You guys might appreciate this Practical Engineering video. Someone working at a nuclear waste repository took hand written notes at a meeting and wrote "an organic" instead of "inorganic". Bad stuff happened.

Welcome! Retirement is fantastic when it lets you do what you want instead of what someone else wants.

Maybe it is self selection so far but I’m surprised at such a tech heavy crowd. I retired in 2012 from 35 years as a software engineer. First job out of grad school I wrote the code generator for a Jovial compiler used to write flight software for the MX missles. Then almost 10 at a small...

Fantastic! Please give enough notice for those of us far away. We live in CA and have a daughter in Durham. A combo trip would be great. 👍

Do You Want Your Scout To Have A Hands-Free Driving System?

All good points that I agree with. I’ll add a personal point about active lane centering as opposed to warnings. We have a 2023 Honda Pilot that does active lane centering and is not naggy. We never trust just it entirely, we use it as an aid keeping hands lightly on the wheel and paying...

    Power outlets

Welcome, this is a very friendly place! I think the power options are influenced by the Terra being a work vehicle and the Traveler being a lifestyle vehicle. The Terra has 120V, 15A outlets in the bed, along with a 240V, 50A outlet. That is just the capability of the NEMA 14-50 outlet, nothing...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

You always have the choice to stop and charge, driving as much on electricity as you want. The point is to be able to gas and go if you can’t find a convenient charger or don’t want to wait. This is where different folk have different opinions about the balance between battery and gas range.
  18. AlanL

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I can’t see that being the case. Not having infinite gas and go will be a deal breaker for many. The software has to preserve some amount of the battery and force you to run out of gas before running out of the battery. Your job to then get gas before the battery dies. Better yet before running...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

My hope and understanding is that we can switch right up to the point of finalizing an order so no need to hurry. Unless the balance of preorders has a big effect on what they produce first. Your good engineering delay points aside, they seem to have said the factory will be able to adjust the...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I suspect you're right. But Scott Keogh was coy about this in the Motor Trend interview and I've read some things recently that suggest the manufacturing cost of the Harvester might be lower. A 65 kWh LFP battery and genset could be a lot less expensive than a 125 kWh NMC battery. Keeping the...
