  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Expert Car Designer Analysis of Scout Traveler and Terra

Yes, that is good. I also like this one from a guy deep in the IH Scout community. Totally different background, making many of the same design points. His whole video is worth watching, some overall reaction then the design part starts about 31:20.

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Yes, I trust Scout Motors. I’m trying to educate those saying that paddle shifters are useless gadgets from the ICE ages. And yes the vast majority of you who just want something easy to use should get that.

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Try towing down the Panamint Grade into Death Valley or or any of the other steep curvy grades in the west. I’m not saying everyone needs this, but some of us do and our lives depend on it.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Maybe. I read “up to” as “your mileage may vary”. I can see Scout offering just one battery at first to let them concentrate on getting things into production.

    Volkswagen's Role In Engineering

Welcome! The role of the Volkswagen Group (VWG) is minimal. At this point only the basis for the 4 cylinder ICE part of the Harvester, even that will be modified for its use in the genset. The role of VW automobiles even less. R1TVT hit a lot of the high points. The Scouts are engineered in the...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

    1. The use of adaptive cruise control. 2. The use of paddle shifters for regen to mimic the well established use of downshifting ICE going downhill with a big weight pushing you along.

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Different driving uses call for different approaches. That Tesla way is not good for towing and paddles are much better. Use paddles for straight downhill speed control, feet off both pedals in a relaxed posture, attention on the road. Coming into a curve, “downshift” with the paddles and/or...

    Dynamic Power Management

I think it is service capacity more than room for a breaker. The need to allow for current use plus an additional whatever amps for the charger. I agree though that overnight charging does not need 60A. When I had a 100A subpanel installed for my wood shop the electrician was surprised our...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

I've never owned an EV so can't quantify, but flat land use is one of the reasons hybrids get great city mileage. Regen is just an alternate form of braking that generates electricity instead of heating up friction pads and metal disks.

Harvester - Request to allow it to charge battery while parked & a 30-40amp/240v outlet

Welcome! I'm pretty sure they have said V2H is in the plans.

Harvester - Request to allow it to charge battery while parked & a 30-40amp/240v outlet

Do you think they need more than a "Don't do this" warning? My Honda generator's manual has a warning like that. The dangers of running an ICE engine in an enclosed space are should be well known to any owner.

Harvester - Request to allow it to charge battery while parked & a 30-40amp/240v outlet

I would have to do some digging to find where it is said, but I'm 90+ percent sure they have mentioned running the Harvester like this in a camping scenario. Seems like an obvious extension to home use, especially with the factory in an area with hurricanes and prolonged outages.

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

You guys are coming up with feedback I hope gets implemented. Broken record me, blending sounds great for general driving but potentially deadly for towing. Going down the Panamint Grade into Death Valley we have to be absolutely certain that the friction brakes only get applied when the driver...

    Paddle Shifters For Adjusting Regen

Welcome! Nice description of things I knew were issues but did not did not understand in depth. I dearly hope they do something where it will be easy and certain to use only regen to its max until I step on the brake pedal and then immediately back to regen when I let off. And control the amount...

    Tow range

Is Scott Keogh in a high profile public interview good enough? I'm wondering about towing performance at various weights also. There is an Out of Spec Reviews towing video though that showed in their experience drag is by far the biggest impact on level ground, weight matters more on grades...

    Tow range

Fair enough not formally announced, but … From the Jay Leno interview, quotes from the transcript with corrections as best I could. Plus some non-gas-and-go tidbits that I caught this time. I’ll go through the much longer Motor Trend interview to see if more is said. Scott Keogh at 2:30: … we...

    Solo Scout camping fantasy lineup

We have a Duxtop, love it. No CO, no excess heat. I almost never use our gas cooktop these days.

    Tow range

Funny you should ask, ... Charging from the generator is a misconception of a sort. The Harvester software should ensure that you never drain the battery to zero. The generator will not be big enough to provide full power without being way to big and heavy. Look at the Ramcharger and it's V6...

    Tow range

A common difference I’ve seen from various sources is about 1/2 range for a typical trip, 1/4-ish for grades. Here are some notes I’ve putting together to help me decide if I could tolerate the BEV instead of the Harvester: BEV, 125 kWH battery, 350 mile range Not towing: 350 miles at 2.8...
