  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Driver Legroom

I don't think so. That would be good.

    Driver Legroom

One way the Lightning with higher trims accommodates taller and shorter drivers is with adjustable steering AND pedals. With position memory, I just press a button and the pilot's settings adjust from my 5'4" partner's to mine (6'1").

Scout Traveler SUV Green Off-Road Concept

    I would love a two-toned National Forest/Park Service Green + Brown, 60% gloss.

    Harvester towing

Yeah, the precision of the distance was over the top... ;)

    Door Handles!

From a functional POV, I find most EV handles to be rubbish. Not everything needs to be redesigned. Ford did it mostly right with the Lightning and missed entirely with the Mustang--so badly that they are struggling to respond to some alarming incidents involving children locked inside the...

    Dynamic Power Management

I hope the weave is an optional feature. An outdoor cable with woven fabric in a cold, wet climate might be problematic in the winter.

    Harvester towing

Okay, I did some reading and I think the guy misremembered, misstated, or maybe you misunderstood/misremembered. An oversized motor can waste a lot of energy. An undersized motor can fail spectacularly. What the tech was probably remembering was that oversizing the motor, for example for...

    Frunk Fridge

True enough. Our fridge dissipates less than 0.5 kWh/day, so it really doesn't cause a lot of heating.

    Frunk Fridge

I solved all of this by putting the fridge in the bed of the truck. Even a tonneau cover doesn’t seal it well enough to cause a buildup of heat. It works wonderfully.

Warning: Maths!!! :geek:😱😵‍💫:geek:🤪😜 I thought about hiding everything behind a spoiler, but nah. All you mathophobes can just enjoy it. 😍🤩🥸 I also have to apologize. I was in the car and typing makes me carsick, so I did the bar minimum to give the math earlier and it was both not enough and...

    Harvester towing

I'm in the car right now. I'll lay it all the maths this evening.

    Harvester towing

I'm not as familiar with the load issues for electric motors, but that sounds like a type of motor not used by EVs.

    Harvester towing

At high enough velocity, this is true! Compression of the atmosphere becomes a thing for certain airplanes/jets below the speed of sound.
  14. SpaceEVDriver

    Harvester towing

K.E. = 1/2 mV ^2 But that's without atmosphere. Add atmosphere into the mix and you have to speed the particles up to at least the speed of the vehicle to move them out of the way.
  15. SpaceEVDriver

    Harvester towing

Absolutely correct. Total energy cost goes as velocity cubed, so higher speeds will always lose the efficiency game. Without detailed analysis of the (lack of) aerodynamics of the Arosy, we can only guess. My guess is that 55 mph towing the Argosy is probably similar to 80 mph towing nothing...

    Size comparison

I've been looking for an FJ6x for electric conversion for ages. It's a good thing we haven't found one yet. The conversion tech just keeps getting better.

    Harvester towing

My lightning has an extended range battery: 131 kWh, 320 miles. The weight of the trailer is less important than the air resistance. A travel trailer will be worse than what I was towing in the example. I would guess not better than 1.7 miles/kWh and maybe as bad as 1.1 miles/kWh at 65-70 mph.

    Spare Parts Availability At Launch

Are you breaking parts already?! I haven’t had to weld a part on any of my trucks in maybe three decades. I haven’t *had* to math in…well, okay, my job is mathing, so it’s been about 5 minutes.

    Spare Parts Availability At Launch

While I've never broken a part while wheeling, I usually carried all the easily-replaceable things I might need. And I've fixed others' vehicles with those parts. You identified the obvious ones: CV axles, tie rod ends, a second full-sized spare (please, please just use a standard lug pattern...

I Recently Rented a Gas Vehicle—Here’s my Review

I missed the part about number of motors. I would guess you want to use 2 motors. but honestly the Terra and Traveler will be so similar that I think using the Lightning Extended Range (131 kWh) will be fine for estimating either. Basically what they’re using the vehicle selection for is the...
