  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Scout-specific and general EV thoughts from my weekend with a Hummer, as an ICE enthusiast

I think it’s totally fine as long as it doesn’t endanger or cause problems for anyone else.

Interesting bit of research concerning the future of ICE infrastructure...

If I had f-u money, I’d be buying struggling corner gas stations in lower-income neighborhoods, do the UST remediation, install underground transformers in their place, including ground-source heat pump cooling; power them at least partially with solar over the building and pump cover structure...

Scout-specific and general EV thoughts from my weekend with a Hummer, as an ICE enthusiast

Trying to eke out every foot of range with as little energy use as possible. Doing things like: Coasting for a long, long time instead of braking; so the energy use is reduced as much as possible. Taking a long time and distance to accelerate from a stop. Coasting with the hope that the light...

Scout-specific and general EV thoughts from my weekend with a Hummer, as an ICE enthusiast

Agreed. The research shows this: There’s no statistically-meaningful difference in efficiency between 1PD on or off with drivers who are comfortable with their chosen driving mode. Unless the driver is hypermiling, in which case coasting/1PD off is more efficient. But also it’s more annoying...

Please do NOT use soy based wiring!

The mint thing might be accurate, but it’ll depend on the rodent. My local burrowing rodents love to pull my mint plants down into their burrows. I don’t know their reasons, but it’s an ongoing battle. On the other hand, the mint-smelling bags of potpourri seem to have had some kind of...

Please do NOT use soy based wiring!

The research I’ve read indicates that the main attractant is real food in or near the vehicle. Next is warmth. Then nesting materials.

Please do NOT use soy based wiring!

Just a short note to say that it’s a myth that rodents eat wiring insulation because of soy. I’ve had dozens of vehicles with build years from the 1940s to 2023. Every one except the most recent two (both EVs) have been nibbled on by rodents. The process of converting soy’s long chain molecules...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

Oh, man, I feel this. I’ve abandoned many projects over the years for the same reason.

    E-brake

A major issue with brand-T and other “giga-casting” companies is that the reason for modularity was ignored by “disrupters” who don’t tend to understand what they’re disrupting. Parts that are bolted together have bolts or rivets for very good reasons. Those bolts/rivets are not just for...

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

I agree. I refuse to even entertain the idea of purchasing a vehicle where these kinds of toys aren’t well-hidden—and quiet—easter eggs and are instead part of their personality. I am a car guy through and through and love fun things, but not if they interfere with others’ peace or with the...

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

The most useful place for the adaptive high beams is on the freeway. I turn off my high beams in the city because despite their usefulness, programmers are not very good at predicting weird situations where having the brights come on accidentally could be problematic. They’re most useful for...

Interesting Offroad Behavior of a Lightning

I have experienced this when I hit a patch of ice too. Which surprised me but immediately made me feel great about the vehicle’s control on ice. It stopped much, much earlier than I’d expected.

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

My Lightning has the required LED matrix headlight system and this technology can be enabled by the owner. I enabled mine within a week of buying the Lightning. Ford calls it “Glare-Free.” It is not yet enabled by default, but the hardware is there, and I expect Ford will run an OTA to enable...

    Camping with a Traveler/Terra

Took the Lightning camping this past weekend. I expect to be able to run an 1800 Watt Induction cooktop and an induction kettle. My preference would be that the frunk has 2.4 kW of power (or more) to run camping cookware, etc. I expect to be able to run a freezer. I like my amenities...

Interesting Offroad Behavior of a Lightning

Okay. I created a YouTube channel and uploaded these videos (and clips from them.) Going uphill, long video (1:18) Going uphill, short clip (0:03) Going downhill, long video (1:27). Downhill clip with one example of wheelspin (0:08). Note that Ford does offer an “offroad” mode for the...

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

I can easily do that for both the Mustang and the Lightning. I don’t know what you mean by “adaptive driving beams” but I have an anti-glare feature on the Lightning: I leave the high-beams on and vehicles in front of the truck are detected by the truck. Based on the vehicle’s relative...

From a Tesla and Lightning Owner: Here’s What I Need to See from Scout

Sounds like they do own a Lightning already, so other than some subjective agreements and disagreements, I can't offer much to the discussion. I have never worried that the Lightning range was going to let me down. I usually meet or exceed the EPA range estimate. I've occasionally used the...

Interesting Offroad Behavior of a Lightning

Yeah, that's an open differential. You can get that in the right conditions while driving too. This is behaving somewhat differently.
