  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Harvester towing

I’ll never be able to afford a Lightship, and I don’t trust powered axles on a trailer, so I don’t really want one. I still think the tech is kinda neat!

    Harvester towing

This is the thing that people who tow but don’t investigate the systems don’t really seem to get: The advertised rating is almost always limited to one or two trims. It’s never the tow rating of every vehicle in the lineup. The Scouts will have tow ratings ranging from 5k to 10k, but I suspect...

    Harvester towing

I saw one of the Lightships on its way to Flagstaff a few weeks ago. I was going the opposite direction and didn’t have a chance to see what was towing it, but I think it was a Rivian.

    Harvester towing

This is the real issue regarding the drama. The Scout will never be all things to all people, but unless the person is being an a-hole, they should feel welcome to talk about the vehicle and even say what they feel would make it a better vehicle—even when they say it with an authority that may...

    Harvester towing

If it had been AZ, I would have asked if the driver had a big white beard. Sounds like something my late father would have done. I’ve welded a tow hitch to a Chevy Chevette to tow a water trailer. The power train isn’t the limiting factor in towing. Never has been. I’ve used both of these...

    Harvester towing

The belief that one vehicle is supposed to do everything is strong, especially when the vehicle doesn’t exist yet. And especially as the price of all vehicles continues to climb through the roof. As mentioned, a 10k towing capacity is readily available with the Lightning, Silverado (Sierra)...

How would you build your Scout?

Agreed. And my Lightning has a lot more noise management than any previous vehicle I’ve owned.

Scout Traveler SUV Green Off-Road Concept

I’m guessing the updated render is correct. If the bumper is removable, they need to have white reverse lights even when it’s been removed.

How would you build your Scout?

I guess it’s a matter of preference. I didn’t like the volume or the way the KO3s sounded on my Tacoma.

How would you build your Scout?

For noise, yes, you’re right, tread has the biggest impact. The 35s seen on the Scout concepts will be loud. I’ll stick with less aggressive tread for quieter travel.

How would you build your Scout?

It's not. But I can keep dreaming.

How would you build your Scout?

For me, pizza cutters are 8" wide or even less. I want the heavy duty light truck tires, but they're difficult to find these days.

    Driver Legroom

Lucky in one sense, sure. But I would have liked a longer bed or shorter truck and would give up some second row cabin space for it. Of course it would be a different story if our Rottie was still alive. (The Rivian was out of my price range.)

The One-Ton Problem with Scout’s Harvester Range Extender

I think I've said it elsewhere. The powertrain isn't the limiter on tow capacity. It's the GAWR. Unless Scout adds a new axle option, they have to limit the tow rating so that the allowed tongue weight is 10-15% of the trailer weight. Putting a 250-500 pound engine over the rear axle directly...

    Driver Legroom

I have so much space behind myself in the Lightning. I could give up 6-12 inches for a longer bed. And I would still have a ton of space in the back seat.

How would you build your Scout?

I grew up with a hole in the floorboard of one of our two Scouts II; you could see the highway passing by. The other Scout II had a leaky exhaust manifold that vented into the cabin (my first V8 rebuild was a Chevy large block to replace the IH engine in this Scout). I experienced all of those...

How would you build your Scout?

I had singing tires on my Tundra. Once I got an EV, every unnecessary noise was a thing to be eliminated. I'm constantly on the hunt for skinnier, quieter LTs for my Lightning.

How would you build your Scout?

They will also sing to you so loudly. You'll notice road noise a lot more because there's no engine noise (unless you get the Harvester). The total noise volume will be lower, but new noises will dominate.

How would you build your Scout?

Yeah, see @R1TVT's post immediately above. Tall, wide tires will kill range. Having skinnier, shorter tires will be better for range. Less knobby tires will be better for range. Lower ride height will be better for range. My guess from other (ICE) vehicles is that 35s will likely net you 20-25%...

How would you build your Scout?

BEV Traveler We have the Lightning and I can’t imagine giving it up; our other vehicle is a Mustang Mach-E, and it’ll have ~100k miles on it by the time the Scout is available Largest battery option available Highest-range wheels and tires, but if there are options with the same long range...
