  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Most Iconic Location(s) for Scout Ads

100% This. I would recommend Canyonlands, but there’s at least one iconic trail that the new Scout is probably too wide for, so it probably shouldn’t be part of the campaign.

    CYURE GOES TO NATIONALS!!! Yay!!!

Next time someone takes photos of the Scouts with a good camera, they should turn off auto white balance so the color of the lights (and everything else) isn’t dependent on the camera. There may be a way to correct for each photo’s white balance, but it’ll depend on the camera, available...

    CYURE GOES TO NATIONALS!!! Yay!!!

We’ve driven 5-8 hour drives where the passenger is on their laptop working. This would be so helpful for that. Especially if it had a charge port nearby or if one could plug in a charger inside the glove box and thread it out so it is available alongside the table/tray. So much more tidy than...

    CYURE GOES TO NATIONALS!!! Yay!!!

Yeah, the concept green thread shows that the concept bull bar would block the frunk slide. With the Lightning there’s not much clearance needed for the frunk to open, so I’m not sure the frunk opening would be impeded by that bull bar, but anything closer would definitely cause problems. The...

Where’s everyone camping or overlanding for the 4th?

As you saw from my post on another thread, even when we tent camp, we don't have to "rough it" with the Lightning. Frozen cocktails, tacos, and popsicles for dessert...

    Optional PIN to Drive Feature

Exactly, and so does a key fob, a phone as a key, etc. No lock can stop a determined thief. I only lock my doors because they’re automated when I walk away. My father spent his 82 years not locking doors. When I was a kid, he would sometimes leave the truck with the keys in the ignition...

    Optional PIN to Drive Feature

Keypads don’t make the vehicle more secure against theft. The keypad entry code is 5 digits, but there are only 5 buttons, so there are 3125 possible combinations. Divide that by 2 because one of two codes will work (your code or the factory code; this is necessary so that if you forget your...

    Optional PIN to Drive Feature

I have a PIN for the Lightning. I have no idea what it is. It’s a weird size, like maybe 6 digits? I can’t even remember that. I have never used it. I can barely remember my debit card PIN. I just keep the key fob in my purse and don’t worry about it. Phone as a key is similarly useless to me. I...

Bigger Gas Tank - 15 Gallons is Abysmal

. I hadn’t seen this comment earlier. This is absolutely correct. Even going over 90% and under 10% isn’t a big deal. When scientists and engineers say, “don’t store the battery at ___%,” they don’t mean don’t let it be there for a day or two. They mean don’t leave it there for months. And...

    Heated running boards

This is exactly the kind of thing an upfitter’s set of switches, fuses, and software would enable without adding development cost to Scout. If there was a bank of factory-installed, unused switches and commensurate fuse slots available, an upfitter or a DIYer could simply buy some silicon...

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

And this gets back to local service for the Scout. The nearest Ford dealer that I can even begin to sort-of trust is a 90 minute drive from home. That means it’s a 4-hour chunk of my just to drop off the vehicle and another 4-hour chunk of my day to pick it up again. And the same for whomever...

Bigger Gas Tank - 15 Gallons is Abysmal

Assuming “range” in this context means highway range at about a constant speed, there’s minimal change in range from adding 100 pounds. If it’s a lot of stop-and-go or a long, long hill climb, it might impact range by about 100/7000 = about 1.5%, assuming the weight of the truck is 7,000 pounds...

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

I so very much prefer electricity to fluid plumbing, though. When I was a very young kid, I worked for my brother who was a plumber and I had to do the "crawl under the house and fix the sewer line while it’s dripping in my face" kind of work. Not my favorite.

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

I’ve spent a lot of time wiring houses and playing with high-amperage DC, which I’m afraid is causing me to overly-normalize risk. I need to get zapped again to refresh my healthy respect for electricity. ;) ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡😲😲😲

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

The high-voltage stuff does require some additional training, mostly for safety reasons. High-voltage, high-amperage can pose an extreme danger to someone not taking the proper safety precautions. It’s not *difficult*; it’s just important to be thorough.

    50. Then she got tired of it and stopped because it wasn’t doing anything to reduce the population.

    E-brake

I agree. And I hope they don’t do what many manufacturers do which is go with a teeny-tiny battery. There’s a lot of monitoring and maintenance that the 12V battery needs to power while the vehicle isn’t being driven and it’s better to have 50-100Ah instead of the 10Ah (or whatever, I don’...

Please do NOT use soy based wiring!

My partner one year set out a set of bucket traps for the rodents. She caught 50 in one month. And it hasn’t even begun to decrease the population. I would like to attract the foxes and coyotes to the area, but some of my neighbors are weirdly afraid of coyotes—they even believe the coyotes hunt...

Interesting bit of research concerning the future of ICE infrastructure...

This—to me—is one of the things that’s so neat about EVs. As the technology for making electricity improves and becomes more environmentally friendly, so do the vehicles that use it. An ICE vehicle built today will never become any cleaner or less harmful for the environment—it’s a dead-end...

Scout Motors Needs to Rethink “Local” Service. Don't do the Tesla model.

I would much prefer that Scout Motors create a service technician series of certifications so any garage or independent tech can become certified to repair Scouts. In my mind, they would focus on training independent service technicians in communities that have been losing service tech jobs...
