  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Scout concepts on Jay Leno’s Garage

I can only make guesses. But in EV, you will run most of the battery down before you get a warning - which could in theory put you into a slight limp position if you go to hybrid and still want to exceed the steady state. In Hybrid, it will either have a set point to turn on the harvester, or...

Scout has more than 50,000 reservations

Not to be a downer - but turning reservations into sales is a hard thing. Reservations show interest, true. But sales is putting your money where your mouth is. Not sure if it is true, but found an article discussing the end of the Cybertruck reservation program. It said Tesla managed to...

Scout concepts on Jay Leno’s Garage

First off, I do hope they change that road noise. It sounded like gear noise - the same noise I got on my Jeep before I had to do a $2k repair to the rear axle. Jay mentions at 18:10 that it is a test mule - the gear noise will be addressed during development. Jamie did not comment on Jay's...

How Are Electric Vehicles Taxed in Your State?

I have read elsewhere that Texas now has an additional registration and annual fee for EV's - Think it changed last legislative session. It is not overly harsh - maybe $200 initial and $75/year. It was roughly gauged on the state portion of the fuel tax for 10k miles a year. But we still...

South Carolina Scouts! Your voice is heard: Direct sales bill gets a hearing on Wednesday!

I have purchased all my new vehicles from dealers. In 86 my family had recently had a bad local dealer experience, so we went to the salesman we had previously used at a regional dealership and had a great experience. In 1994, I tried to use a different dealer, and they were scum both at the...

    E-Fuse / Car and Driver

Funny, the switch panel I put in my 2006 LJ uses e-fuses - or at least something that works like these are described.

Volkswagen EVs to Get Tesla Supercharger Access

We have a couple years for Tesla to upgrade gen one V3 superchargers. The bigger issue, perhaps, is the still older V2 chargers. At least v3 systems have a somewhat reasonable charge rate - which means they also have at least a reasonable power source. The V2 chargers don't have the power...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

Honestly I might be complaining about something that already exists. I just realized those circles I drive in the parking lot are most likely caused by using map software on my cell phone. I have not tested in one of my vehicles for well, several vehicles.

Scout Compass in Vehicles and Accessory

If it is a magnetic compass - then true north. If it is a GOOD magnetic compass - then allow for it to be adjustable so you can set it to where you are. As it is, I would say keep it priced reasonable, and just go with magnetic north. I really don't need a multi hundred (or thousand) dollar...

    Potato Chip Flavors?

If it is a normal chip - BBQ or Sour Cream and Onions. But I do have an addiction to Pringles Sour Cream an onions - a guilty pleasure.

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

I almost always feel that aftermarket serves most needs best - but another thread on another forum got me to thinking of one tiny little thing that could be nice. I have no clue what tire jack will be standard, nor what lug wrench. While I love 4 way lug wrenches - perhaps having the lug being...

    MIT Climate Portal

My environmentalism has little to do with CO2 theories. EV's have more pollution during their production, more physical mining damage. Perhaps, if they are simpler and last longer it might balance out. But they are the king of not in my backyard. They move the pollution and the environmental...

    Accessories Poll For Scouts

Been a few months since my first reply, and I still stand generally by a good aftermarket community - but here are a few things I don't expect, but would be nice bonuses. It would be nice if Scout gave us some open accessory switches. The accessory switch panel I got for my LJ is mosfet...

    Handling

While I would bet the balance would be a bit different, it will still have a fairly heavy battery and the motor will be mounted fairly low - I doubt there will be a COG problem. Likewise, with the battery outweighing the engine - the little change in front to rear weight distribution will...

Tarrifs on Canada. Would you still buy?

At this point, I don't think Scout is looking much to international markets. The US market likes big trucks and SUV's - but those do not dominate other foreign markets (other than probably spill over to Mexico and Canada). Perhaps, down the road a long bit, if they flesh out their product line...

    The future of electric vehicles

EV's have angered a lot of the public because they have been put on a gilded pedestal. First they were avoiding road use tax, then they got Federal and often State credits. Plus none of that counts for the millions of government money going into charging infrastructure. At some point they...

    Scout as an EV

Motor tech is changing, and will continue to change. It is not that the old tech no longer works, but the new techs can be more tailor made for their applications. In a shop, motor mass is not all that important - in a hub it would be critical. But a low mass, durable hub motor could be a...

    Scout as an EV

I look at it as a business decision. If they had made an ice vehicle, they would have been in a very competitive market that is already highly saturated. Instead, they looked for a niche that was largely untapped. At worse, I can only say the size of that niche is somewhat yet to be...

    Sound suppression

Did a spring break trip once in an YJ ragtop. It was about a 6hr drive, and I was in the back seat (did it before Grad school, IIRC). Even with earplugs it was LOUD. But spring break in a Jeep in 1990 - priceless. I could not count the number of co-eds that were taking our picture for doing...

    Front 2" Hitch

While I have used mine a bit on a SxS, I have rarely used the one on my F250. F250 has great cameras, and the hitch mount on the front is a bit too high to make it worth connecting the trailer to for backing into tight spaces. Unless the trailer is heavy, I have used my SxS for that...
