  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Sounds like a list of things to love ♥️ Maybe someday, along about the 3rd Edition of Scout EV there will be a truly retro offering that takes us back to the pure love of driving a vehicle (vs. a 4WD computer). I'll wait, but not give up my 80s and 800s in the meanwhile.

    Ideas for Scout Engineers

Rain Sensing Wipers — I somehow seem to have missed the promise of immense convenience of this feature in my 70 years of driving. There have been knobs on the dash, draw knobs up overhead, switches on a stalk, etc. I'd like to think I've mastered them all -- but 'mastered' is probably too...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Well, of course. But what is the reality here, and do expectations fit it? Length of bed is really irrelevant in this discussion. Other than manufacturers making unrealistic advertizing videos, who in their right mind expects to take a pickup off roading and up boulder strewn trails with the...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

I just had a conversation with a couple of the local resident experts on box frame corrosion – their names are Mus Musculus and Peromyscus polionotus. They tell me that box frames are ideal homesites, doorways are numerous, roof and walls strong, there are long runways for the kids to get their...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

I'm not convinced your truth applies in the matter of Toyota pickups. Toyota's policy of "we decide what to build, you'll buy what we build, no orders taken" continues to hinder the brand. I wouldn't matter how many of us would want that configuration; if Toyota's production guru in Japan has...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Can't be all things to all people and uses. If that's your game build yourself something appropriate, or have IHPA clone you one of theirs.

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

My biggest dislike is the size. Today's trucks get bigger and bigger. I recall when the Suzuki Samurai was sought after for off road use. The Scout 80/800 body was about the perfect compromise (yes, early Bronco too) between having useful space to haul your gear and being small enough to get...

    Where are EV chargers needed

Well, from that map I can see that I better have home charger. I'm in a small rural town in that fringe area where some folks commute weekly to work in NYC or Boston, and we are definitely in the weekend home territory. No charger in town, there's a bank of 4 (Level 2) at a ski resort about 5...

    Where are EV chargers needed

I wonder how long Tesla will be able to charge a premium to non-Tesla vehicles using their chargers. Gas stations wouldn't dare trying differential rates based on which brand of car was at the pump, and I expect the Consumer Affairs branch of gov't would be all over any place that tried it. I...

How will the scouts handle the extreme cold?

I hear you, and have experienced similar conditions. Yet, the other question remains: "How will the EV batteries and systems react to extreme prolonged heat?" There was nearly a month of >105ºF in Phoenix area last year. I'm sure that with the aggressive advance of global warming that similar...

What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

For 5 years I was the custodian of one highly task-modified Scout 80 (click on picture). It was one of several built by IH and sent to fire equipment outfitters to be converted into fire engines. I'm aware of about six 80s & 800s fire engines/trucks that have survived, but IH had strong...

What kind of tech do you expect enabled in the car or interface?

How does the capacitive steering wheel sensor react to non-skin touch -- like fuzzy mittens, leather gloves, synthetic knits, etc. Do you need the kind of "cell phone friendly" gloves with special finger tips to make it work (and the touch screen too)?

How will the scouts handle the extreme cold?

I share that hope. The fact that unlike many other makes where the primary design work is done in CA, TX, and FL, the Scout EVs are being designed in Michigan gives me some hope that our concerns will at least be on the table.

How will the scouts handle the extreme cold?

I am concerned with the issue of keeping the battery warm enough to be functional. If what I've read will be correct for the Scout EV it seems that the battery will have to remain warm or be warmed prior to use at Arctic temperatures. We know that resistive heating really eats up the amperes...

    SCOUT TERRA FAQ

I'd be very happy to have solid metal roof and nothing that opens or lets glaring light in from above. We've had glass and openable roofs on vehicles for about 10 years and can count the times they've been opened on one hand. We keep the shade closed and try to ignore them. In a parade when...

What do you love or hate about other off-road vehicles

Speaking of insulation, both thermal and sound, it must be UN-attractive to rodents! 🐿️🐀🐁 No blown-in or sprayed-on soy based materials would be a good start. Soy based insulation jackets on wires is also a problem in some Toyotas. I suspect soy is not the only culprit, it's just the one I know...

The Road to Scout Production - All the latest updates in one place...

In which case – I was always intrigued by the various (obvious) wraps that Rivian used in their pre-production models which were basically colouring books. I believe Rivian actually allowed kids (and adults?) to colour on them at some demo events. It sure was a great way to hold the potential...

    SCOUT TERRA FAQ

Thanks for the reminder. I know 4wd is very sensitive to different conditions because I did have the PowrLock on both axles an early Scout back in the 70s and lived in PA were we got both deep snows and lots of icy conditions. I'm not fully aware of the distinctions you raise, but it was very...

    SCOUT TERRA FAQ

I'm not sure what this response relates to, but I have another point that I hope can be similarly addressed. It appears that the front locker may be available only in an off-road package. Those of us who won't be into serious off-roading but will be driving in areas with significant snow and...
