  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Scout Dimensions Updated On Our Website

I just want to point out the sacrifice I made for this forum. I Google searched hitch mounted spare tire carriers then eventually visited the above manufacturer's website a few times to find the above pic for my post. Thanks to that I'm now getting constant ads from these guys about their...

1,000+ reservations take rate stats: Harvester vs. Full-EV and Traveler vs. Terra

Should be covered by insurance since it was damaged by road debris. No different than if debris destroyed a windshield, a bumper, a transmission, etc. Given it's a $50K repair bill that's definitely one to pass to insurance.

    Living with EV

After 10 years we went from a 2014 BMW X3 to a new Volkswagen ID.4. Reality was 99% of miles covered over the last 2 years was within the Bay Area. Another way to put it: 99% of our fill ups were at our local gas station meaning those fill ups could convert to home charging (or in my wife's case...

1,000+ reservations take rate stats: Harvester vs. Full-EV and Traveler vs. Terra

What I'm saying is if you're in CA or most CARB states, by the time the warranty runs out you're probably changing vehicles anyway so it's a moot point. I didn't want to get into the nuances of the warranty but since you did... Yes the battery warranty is 10yr/150k which is still amazing. As...

    Keep the ol' Scout Too?

We have 2 daily drivers and 2 classics for analog enthusiast feels. A new Scout would simply be replacing one of those daily drivers. I honestly can't imagine someone trading their old Scout for a new one as a classic serves a completely different purpose.

1,000+ reservations take rate stats: Harvester vs. Full-EV and Traveler vs. Terra

I'm in California (aka CARB state) where PHEVs are legally required to have a 15 year/150K warranty so on the contrary, I could say I want the PHEV because of the warranty.

    Basic or All Decked Out?

I'll be shopping Scout Traveler vs Rivian R2 and reality is it'll be a well equipped R2 vs a base Scout so what's offered will be key. Note I'm okay doing this because with Scout it'll be an "everything you need, nothing you don't" mantra so having less kit is fine as long as I'm allowed to...

Scout Dimensions Updated On Our Website

Probably wouldn't fit, even w/o offroad tires the diameters of these wheels is looking to be pretty large.

    That's a fair point.

    Want to Know

I don't know exactly how long it was, but Rivian allowed reservation holders a generous amount of time to actually place orders and not necessarily lose their spot in line. I would hope that's the case here and not being given a surprise 24h window to order after waiting 3+ years.

Scout Dimensions Updated On Our Website

Hoping the tire carrier is optional. On a daily driver that's not constantly going into the wilderness I could see it being cumbersome having to swing open a heavy wheel/rack every time you want to use the trunk in addition to reduced visibility and garage restrictions. That said I could see...

Scout Dimensions Updated On Our Website

To add some modern comparisons the Traveler seems to slot between the R2 and R1S in size with a lean towards R1S.

Spare tire carrier - other locations?

20 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting François Castang several times as we kept doing the same vintage car rallies together. We had an Austin Healey while he had a fantastic 1927/1928 Chrysler he raced. Anyway he was the key man behind the XJ and ZJ, the latter he started working on when it...

Spare tire carrier - other locations?

Sorry I mean if you want a spare tire and have Harvester your only option is the carrier since the space underneath for the spare would be taken up by the APU. EV only you might have an option for rear carrier or underneath like a traditional SUV.

Entry Model Specs, Premium Model Price?

Given the number of VWoA employees now running Scout, my primary concern is they'll gatekeep options in the same way VW does. Want a color other than silver/black/white? Gotta buy the higher trim. Want Harvester? Gotta buy higher trim. Tow hitch? You get the idea. I'm entering this journey with...

Spare tire carrier - other locations?

I would imagine vehicles equipped with Harvester will forego a spare.
