  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I don’t think anyone is arguing that. I personally do a lot of very long trips. We max out at about 11hrs of driving a day (with two drivers) and such a journey typically has two stops for gas, one of which will be no longer than 10 minutes and the other will also include a short meal. There...

New Scout Trucks To Be Revealed October 24, 2024

Hi Jamie, it makes sense that you cannot accommodate a large group. May I suggest that one or two members of this community be invited. It would be nice if the community is represented, even if just by a few individuals. I wouldn’t be at all offended if one or two very active members were...

    Summer Reveal

It’s great to finally have the date. (Posted while I was typing my last message). I don’t mind it being a little later than we expected. It’s better to get it right rather than rush to meet an artificial deadline.

    Summer Reveal

If the reveal will include an in-person event/briefing for the media, I would expect those invitations to go out at least two weeks before so that invitees have time to make arrangements to be there. Since the media are terrible at keeping secrets the reveal date should probably be publicly...

    Audio system

I work in the audio industry but not car audio. If Scout partner with an audio brand it might be a good idea to choose a brand that reinforces the ‘designed in America’ image. A car is the perfect environment for an audio system that supports “spatial” Dolby Atmos. Apple have been pushing this...

    VW is investing in Rivian

Nyobolt have publicly demonstrated the technology. And did so charging with a public charger. They are not revealing exactly how their technology works. But the demo worked. Technological breakthroughs can come from anywhere! Some of the greatest (and seemingly impossible) inventions in...

    ICE Box

From the point of view of camping in the mountains a cooler needs to be transferred to a bear locker and ice needs to be replenished throughout the trip and often this can mean driving just to pick up ice from a store. Given sufficient electrical power available I’d consider taking an AC powered...

    VW is investing in Rivian

UK based startup Nyobolt are making packs that charge to 90% in less than 10 minutes with existing fast chargers. The battery cells operate down to -10C. It’s unclear to me what technology they are using but it looks like the chemistry is lithium ion. The packs can apparently be built with the...

    VW is investing in Rivian

I saw a post on LinkedIn (translated from German) claiming the Rivian CEO let slip that VW and Rivian are starting a new tech company. The company will be staffed with engineers from Rivian who will also be VW employees. The company will operate with minimal interference from VW. The company...

    Scout Design Ideas

True. Gas burners won’t be banned in CA. But the sale of new cars that only burn gas is effectively banned in 2035. You’ll be able to own one or buy a used one but won’t be able to buy a new one.

    Scout Design Ideas

As far as I understand it the California 2035 target still allows for new plug-in-hybrid vehicle to be sold. If so, it does not mean ‘all electric and the end of fossil fuels’ as media reports have made it seem. Gas engines will still be allowed in new vehicles so long as they also have electric...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

The Rivian CEO just did an interview on the Decoder podcast. Among other things he explained why Rivian does not support CarPlay; arguing that the user would need to jump out of CarPlay to open the frunk. To me this highlights the problem of not having physical buttons for things like opening...

    Realistic range concerns.

A durable 400W portable solar panel is about 34lbs. That’s a tiny faction of the weight of the vehicle. The loss due to carrying extra mass would be very small and even more negligible if the vehicle is parked for long periods while gaining from the panel compared to relatively short driving...

    Summer Reveal

Since the big reveal is anticipated to happen before the end of summer, the number of weeks to go must now be in the single digits! I can’t wait! I think the marketing team will want to generate some anticipation and give the media some time to plan to attend so the date of the event will...

    Realistic range concerns.

For the camping trip I did there was about 350 miles (563km) of driving over about 10 hours between when we passing near a charger. This was not very efficient driving. It is unclear to me wether an EV can expect to be able to drive into any RV park and get charged up. I don’t think I would rely...

What kind of processors will be used?

RISC-V is open source so the chip manufacturer does not need to pay a license to ARM. But that license cost is very, very inexpensive. Last quarter ARM received $928,000,000 in revenue and during that time about 8,000,000,000 ARM based chips were sold. That means that ARM gets about $0.12 per...

    Realistic range concerns.

I’m really hoping the Scout has plenty of range or an option for a big battery pack. Some people seem to think electric vehicles should be built with as small a battery as possible and point to average trip lengths as proof that batteries should be small. I think this logic is flawed - a vehicle...
  18. Chaparral

    Realistic range concerns.

I just did a camping trip to Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. This was another trip that would be almost impossible with electric. We camped near Grant Grove in Kings Canyon for 6 nights and had no cell service for the entire week. We had to explore the vast area by car and took 2 trips...

    VW is investing in Rivian

If this is all about in-car software it is a big mistake! Rivian’s user experience is not as bad as some of the other’s but it’s still not great and the owners I hear just keep hoping future updates will improve things. Meanwhile VW’s in-car entertainment software is apparently built on...

    VW is investing in Rivian

This deal between VW and Rivian raises so many questions! The details about what exactly VW gives Rivian and what they get in return are murky. The “news reporters” seem to be introducing their own speculation. Do VW remain committed to Scout? Rivian urgently need a factory and have put their...
