  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

A good discussion about gas motor/generator size vs. highway driving efficiency

This article has some discussion about relationship between engine output and highway driving efficiency, which has also been discussed on and on in the FB group and on scout forum. Something worth reading. https://www.topspeed.com/ram-1500-ramchargers-specs-impressive-yet-raises-eyebrows/

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Gasoline has much more energy density for the same volume compared to battery. A less efficient system are less prone to get affected by the same variable such as towing, temperature, etc. this is why you observe much less efficient drop in these situations on an ICE vehicle vs. BEV. Also, the...

Wait, where did you see the 8k price difference? Was it for the harvester??

Go to track, or at least autocross

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

It's hard to calculate MPG on a "generator". Usually generator use Hours as a measurement. It depends on how fast it revs, and of often it kicks on.

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

BEV use electicity to heat up battery and motor, that's a very inefficient way even with heatpump. Having an ICE engine can heat up the battery quickly without wasting energy. Heat is just a byproduct.

Yep, they are just dead weight you carry around, if you don't need all the juices.

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

If you've read the post I was replying to, you'll know he said he "drives 100 miles per day on Los Angeles", which is in CA. So you tell me, what does CA have to do with pure BEV? :ROFLMAO:

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

No. You forgot what damaged the range of BEVs most: the Cold. Having an ICE generator can create Heat as a byproduct. All they need to do is add a coolant circulation to heat up the electric motor and batteries, just like what they do on hybrids. So, actually having an ICE engine can solve the...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Why you guys don't install L2 outside? I'm thinking to put a NEMA 14-50 outside the garage for the fear of it catching on fire while charging. At least I won't get whole house burned down. A friend's house burned down while her Mercedes was charging over night. And she had been charging fine...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Correct 100%. I charged solely on EA network for the past 3 years with our ID4, but it's only because we got 3 years of free charging. And it's one of the main reason I got it. And yes, based on what it showed me about how much I "saved" with the free charging, each charge would cost $25-35...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

I really hope the scout team focusing on your targets and try to make it out as soon as you can. 2 years of waiting would be too long for many, and technology could change, and design gets old. I appreciate you guys listening to the future owners, but don't let the noise to steer you off the...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Who wouldn't? The issue is not they don't "want" to give more range. The issue is the battery technology. For the same amount of room it takes, the energy density lithium battery can provide is still much lower than gasoline. Samsung just said their first solid state battery is ready for mass...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Not necessary if you want to charge your vehicle every night like charging your phone 🤣 To charge the 82kwh battery of our ID4 on 110v, it will take a whole weekend plugged in 24 hours a day.

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

You got it. I've constantly saying this in all the EV groups that HEV is a better solution for most people and I constantly got bullied. But that's the truth.

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

How efficient do you think those 35 ATs would be? I can tell you that the KO2s costed me 2mpg on my f150, and that's from 16 to 14 mpg, not from 42 to 40 mpg. If you know that mpg is actually a more illusional figure than gal/100 mile or liter/100km. Of course you can put smaller road going...

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

This sounds more like turbo charged EA888 then.😜

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

That will require a gas engine powerful enough to both maintain the energy loss on keep the vehicle going, and still have extra energy to charge the battery. If that's the case, then all discussions in this post would be solved.
