  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Manual Transmission

I support the idea of being more involved in driving somehow. All of my vehicles are manuals, and I enjoy them for the involvement they provide, despite being slower than their automatic counterparts. ALL automatic vehicles I've driven are desperately boring to drive to me. Tesla? Boring...

    True 4WD with in-wheel motors

My first thought was the suspension seats in the 70-series Land Cruiser. Put the driver's weight to work for you!

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

4Runner- big enough for a few adults in the back, but small enough to fit the trails and parking lots with ease.

I'd prefer cloth, but if we're going leather, I'll take leather from nothing but the finest, grain-fed vegans. Cows work too. I like cows.

Looks like an empty slot in the bottom right. Don't be tempted Scout!

    Daily Driver Comforts

I'm going all-in here. Power windows, power locks. That's about it for me. A radio isn't needed if you give me space to install an aftermarket unit.

    Buttons vs screens

My main request is to consider safety first when designing these integrations. Mazda is one of the few companies that gets this. I shouldn't have to take my eyes off the road to do ANYTHING related to driving or driving comfort. Lighting, HVAC, wipers, basic radio functions, cruise control...

    Axles

If they're going IFS, give us a unique long-travel design with in-wheel motors, unencumbered by CVs and their inherent limitations.

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

A 2-door is more about utility than passenger space, so why not keep a typical transmission tunnel layout and fill it with stacked batteries? This allows the standard skateboard battery (albeit a shorter one) below, with secondary capacity in the tunnel. Still allows for four full seats...

    Scout Design Ideas

Winching gets complicated. EVs don't have enough 12v power to handle a winch, so do you beef up that system or create a high-voltage winch? I think I prefer the latter with an 800v winch, but then you're (initially) limited to only that winch with no other aftermarket options or parts.

    Color Wishlist

Another vote for orange. Make mine a Creamsicle with white accents. Anything from a Crayola orange to a darker burnt orange is fine. Not too much yellow, not too much red. The Hot Lava color on my FR-S was an incredible orange.

    True 4WD with in-wheel motors

That should allow locking hubs as an easy option to disengage the wheels from the drivetrain for flat-towing, pushing, etc. All using readily available parts.

Yeah, I've seen a few stories of Rivians bricked in traffic, and they simply don't move.

The aforementioned idea of interchangeable grills is genius. Also an additional revenue source for Scout.

    Front Hinged Hood

As a height-challenged person, I've got to agree with the Lightning's frunk access being, well, accessible compared to most.

    Idea: Cradle to Delivery

It's been a few years, but when I'd ordered a new BMW, I was pleased with all of the information they gave me through the process. I had updates as it was being built, transported, tracking number for the ship over, status when it arrived to port, transportation to my dealer, etc. I loved the...

As someone that lives in a state that doesn't allow direct-to-consumer sales or service, I'm hoping they don't go this route. The dealer groups and their lobbying are very strong locally.

    Axles

Question about EVs in general: when running multiple motors, can the RPM be controlled with identical output? Basically emulating a locker? Or when you lift a wheel off the ground, does that motor automatically spin faster due to no load on it? I'm thinking something akin to a stepper motor...
