  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

I don’t feel betrayed. Betrayal implies there was trust before the betrayal. I’ve never trusted the current batch even a little bit. And I knew this would be the likely consequence. Do I need more chargers to be installed? No, not really. I’m certain there's nowhere driveable in North America...

    33 Months of EV driving...

As you decrease the difference in speeds, it's more difficult to measure the difference in energy cost and to separate issues like wind, acceleration for passing, slopes, etc. The math says there's about an 8% difference in energy cost due to drag between 73 mph and 75 mph, all other variables...

    33 Months of EV driving...

Like you, I'm not driving 55 on a freeway with a 75mph speed limit; I got enough of that as a kid. I wanted a speed that was relatively safe, that gets me to where I'm going in a reasonable time, that didn't cost too much extra money or energy. I tested out a range of speeds for several regular...

I apologize, I thought I'd responded to this. I have a 5 kWh auxiliary battery / power station that I charge before leaving home when we're on road trips or going camping. When we camp, I also bring 400-800 Watts of solar. The auxiliary battery does two things: 1) it runs a dual-zone...

    33 Months of EV driving...

I tend to go into too much detail, yes. Here's some more of the too much detail... In my vehicles, I do not arrive any earlier if I drive 80 mph compared to if I drive 73 mph. I take an 1100+ mile road trip (round trip) about once a month or every other month. This is a freeway drive that I...

On the freeway, I typically stay at 72-73 mph unless there's a compelling reason to go a different speed. Yes, the brick-of-a-vehicle has a huge issue with efficiency at excessive speed. A lot of people like to quote the velocity squared law for energy cost, but it's actually cube of velocity...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

I didn't understand why people think all EV with a >300 mile range, especially in commuter traffic needs a home charger. Most people drive less than 40 miles a day. Most trips are less than a few miles long. I'm able to get better than 400 miles on my Lightning if I'm commuting. That's more than...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

I carry all of my emergency gear, charging gear, tools, a stool/chair, a rubberized blanket for when I need to wrench, jump cables, the air compressor, and other dirty junk in the frunk of our Lightning. And there's still space for more. This keeps the cabin free from all that stuff and allows...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Batteries care about long-term (weeks at a time) storage at 100%, not being charged to 100%. As long as the charge controller manages the charge rate from about 90% to 100% properly, there's minimal degradation of an NMC (or any other chemistry) battery. An owner charging to 100% and then using...

Global EREV battery capacity deployment is growing six times faster than that of BEVs

Such a poorly-written headline and article. It's easy to see high growth in percent when there was essentially no capacity before. The reality is different. No, the capacity of EREVs and PHEVs is not growing faster than the capacity of BEVs. Growth of 18% of BEV capacity on 552 GWh is almost...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

It definitely takes some practice. My partner didn't like using it when we first got our Mustang, but she's switched to the dark side after a couple of years of practice. I usually get sick if I'm not driving and her driving with 1PD does not make me sick.

Frankly, if I'm a passenger and the driver is not using cruise control on the freeway, then I'm the driver next time and every time in the future. It's not worth putting up with.

It's a personal preference. Many technical tests have found that there's minimal efficiency difference between 1PD on and off. I grew up on manual transmissions, so it feels more like what I'm used to when I let off on the accelerator while the vehicle is still in gear. For most people I know...

Consumer Freedom and Scout Motors in South Carolina

It cost them next to nothing. The process is entirely electronic. If I had clicked a button that said, "ship the truck to me," then I would agree there's a cost to the business. But until that point the deposit should be refundable. It is not. They do not expose all of the terms before requiring...

Consumer Freedom and Scout Motors in South Carolina

It wasn't the reservation system. It was during purchasing. They required a $1k before I got to see the full terms of the contract. I've tried to get them to return the money, but they've refused. I did know it was non-refundable, but it's still unreasonable to require that money before the...

Consumer Freedom and Scout Motors in South Carolina

I sure hope Scout can figure this out. A word about Rivian's sales model, though: Please be more transparent and more consumer-friendly. Once you start the purchase process with Rivian, they don't give you the full terms and contract until after you've donated your non-refundable $1000. I...

Consumer Freedom and Scout Motors in South Carolina

I did once some time ago. It was fine. They work with dealers and are not a dealer themselves. So, still require a local dealer. In fact, they only work with a few dealers and in my experience the options only exist where there's competition between dealers already. In my current small town...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Ah, I see. I must have missed some important context. I struggle to understand where the Harvester would appeal to me in any of my use cases (around town, road tripping, offroad camping/boondocking, or towing my tractor, travel trailer, utility trailer, or water trailer as far as from northern...

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

Are you talking a 240 mile round trip starting at 100% and not charging anywhere before returning home? I do that all the time in my Lightning.

Range extender - please adjust spec to 250 miles of EV Range

I was getting 8-18 mpg in my Tacoma depending on what I was towing/hauling, and I couldn't safely tow my tractor on the freeway. It was an easy calculation to get rid of gas and go all-electric as soon as we found the right deal with the Lightning. Even if we'd bought the Lightning at full...
