  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Infrequent drivers - Charge every day?

Yes. Thanks for the elaboration. We have the lightning set to charge to 90% and the Mustang to 85%. The larger battery in the Lightning means it won't make it to 100% from 85% if I have a last minute trip and only have an hour or so before I have to leave. The myth about not charging to 100%...

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

I wouldn't take a Raptor out crawling. It's fine as a desert runner. I wouldn't take any full-sized truck crawling. Some people do, though.

Infrequent drivers - Charge every day?

A common refrain in EV circles is, "ABC," "Always Be Charging," or "Always Be Connected." You don't have to charge to 100%, but if you can leave the vehicle plugged in, you'll be happier. We have both the Mustang and the Lightning in a garage, plugged in whenever not in use. Both have the...

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

According to specs, the Terra will be very similar to the Lightning in size and probably weight. It will have higher clearance and better angles. It will be fine as a mild+ off-road truck. It's going to be just too wide, too long, and too heavy to be a rock crawler. Neither the Terra nor the...

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

My partner and I recently took a trip up to Moab for a long weekend. We only have EVs, so I thought this would be a good time to test out how a long wheelbase, full-sized pickup does on trails I've done in a Tacoma. The F-150 Lightning is not a rock crawler. I don't think either the Traveler or...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Here's a map of all the DCFC chargers. I didn't have time to make a heatmap. The size of the circle indicates number of plugs.

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Because the mapping apps necessarily have to filter based on zoom level, I find they don't give a good idea of general accessibility of DCFC in a large area of interest. So I put together some charts based on data from the US Department of Energy. I'm not sure how up-to-date or complete the...

Offer it with a gas motor

We have the opposite problem with solid state. They're already in use for very small applications like medical devices. The development problem for solid state is scaling the tiny cells and packs up to be useful in a vehicle. Factorial and several others are kind of skipping the current...

Offer it with a gas motor

You quoted their description of the FEST. The best-case of 390 Wh/kg would be great if they can achieve it, but we'll see. The FEST has a semi- or quasi-solid electrolyte. The Solstice is their tech with the all-solid electrolyte. Mercedes, Stellantis, Hyundai, and Kia have explicitly stated...

    Analog Scout?

WhenI was a kid, there were several times we had to tow our Scouts home with a horse providing the power. We also had a horse-drawn wagon. Sounds kind of like what the OP wants.

Offer it with a gas motor

The Mercedes tests are with the Factorial FEST, which is a quasi-solid-state battery, not a true solid-state battery. Their claims are over hyping the reality. True solid state is still a ways out. That said, the improvement to specific energy and energy density is still promising.

Bi-directional Charging / Home Power Backup

This is the major issue. It's not about whether the manufacturer wants to do it. The hardware necessary to do this is a $10k+ add-on. The engineering experience necessary to plan the system for each unique home is difficult to attain. The discussions with the utility are long and difficult. The...

    33 Months of EV driving...

Yeah. The heat-waste energy losses by an ICE are so high that while it's the same physics for loss at speed, there's such a large base inefficiency that it's not as obvious to ICEs when driving at higher speeds. The EPA "test cycle" weights the city 55% and highway 45%. But the "test" is more...

    33 Months of EV driving...

I recently spent a month in the Los Angeles area and was getting between 4 and 8 miles/kWh in the Lighting---avoiding the freeways is both faster and more efficient (cheaper). At 4 miles/kWh, I can get 4 miles/kWh*131 kWh = 525 miles; at 8 miles/kWh, I can get >1,000 miles. Many times I returned...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

Petrol-Gas would have to go below $0.60/gallon for me to even begin to consider leaving my EVs behind, if cost was the only consideration. That's the value where it's difficult for my Lightning to pay itself off compared with a similar capability F-150 gasser, based on the million or so...

    Ability to Fit a Snowplow

It's cheaper (no need for an additional, unusual hitch on the front). I've been backing trailers into interesting spaces for decades, so plowing backwards is pretty easy for me. It might not be for everyone.

    Ability to Fit a Snowplow

I run a snow plow on the rear hitch of my Lightning. With the cameras, I find it easier to plow driving backward than I would driving forward with the front camera blocked.

    Battery Capacity Options

Careful, slow driving in my extended range Lightning can get 350 miles, but the EPA rating is 320 miles. I seriously doubt Scout will get 350 miles on 130 kWh battery with their current profile and 4wd capability plans.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

My partner took about two weeks to get used to 1pd. Before that, she drove with 1pd off. I'm visiting family who has a Chevrolet Bolt and it has 1pd turned off. I dislike it, but won't turn it on because I don't want to forget and leave 1pd on when I leave. It's been a little over a week and...

    The future of electric vehicles

My business has been and will continue to be negatively impacted by the insanity and current projections indicate we won't be able to purchase the Scout when it comes out.
