  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Haha! With the Lightning, the truck has to be told to provide the power, so it's not possible to siphon from it without permission. But, boy, does that bring up pretty horrible memories. With the EV6 getting much higher efficiency, I barely noticed the "drain" of energy. It's a Husky bag. It...

    Auto show viewing?

I was hoping they would be at the Phoenix Electrify Expo next weekend, but it doesn't appear so. My loss.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Despite your best efforts, you do sometimes run out of energy, whether it's gas or electrical energy. A friend was hauling up a bunch of stuff from their late mother's home and in their hurry and grief, they ran very low on energy. It happens. The Lightning can provide up to 30A, 240V (7.2...

    Wishlist

On almost every truck I've had, I've installed an air compressor and often an air tank. I haven't gotten around to it yet with my Lightning, but eventually I'll do so. Just need to find the time.

Will Scout Work With Future 3rd Party Battery Retrofit/Replacement Companies? (Right to Repair)

This is a great point that I usually don't go into because the longevity is so good that few people will see the degradation in their daily lives, but it's also important. My Lightning has a 143 kWh battery with 131 kWh usable (91.6%). The manufacturer reserves battery capacity using whatever...

Will Scout Work With Future 3rd Party Battery Retrofit/Replacement Companies? (Right to Repair)

Yeah. I have zero concerns about battery longevity. Assuming the law remains the same, EV batteries are required to be warrantied for >= 8 years and 100,000 miles. Modern NMC and LFP batteries have 1000-4000 charge cycles before they're down to about 75-80% state of health. Assuming 350 miles...

    Walkabout Mode (Safety Feature)

These kinds of suggestions are great and all, but I really hope Scout Motors doesn't spend research/developer time or money on them. They should be a truck manufacturer and should focus on making the best vehicles they can possibly make. Don't make it a kitchen-sink for everyone. Make it tight...

Scout concepts on Jay Leno’s Garage

Second gen scouts might get solid state, but I wouldn't bet on it. The increasing trade war is going to stall any China-, Korea-, or Japan-US battery collaborations or licensing rather quickly (see recent news about those three countries organizing a 3-sided response to US tariffs). In the US...

How will the scouts handle the extreme cold?

My Fords prioritize drive control over the rest of the computer system. Very, very shortly after I tap the Start button, the vehicle is ready to go. Even if the screens are still booting up, I can be driving. My usual process: Unplug Get in Tap Start Open the garage door Put my seatbelt on...

What is More Important? - EV Charge Time or EV Range

The "A Better Route Planner" app can help with this. They're overly conservative for my tastes, they stop at stops I wouldn't, and they assume longer charge times than I get, but they're a good start to estimating travel possibilities. I'd suggest using the Lightning AWD Extended Range as your...

Snow traction with lighter front end?

I have had far better response in snow and ice with our EVs than I've ever had with non-EV 4WD vehicles. We usually get around 100 inches of snow (which then turns to ice) in our little mountain town, and I grew up in a place with lots of snow and ice. In the past we've owned two sets of...

Whose coming to Scout from an EV Truck?

Spelling of "Lightning" is wrong. ;) There's not much difference in capabilities or size between the Lightning vs Terra (might be a bit better offroad, but it'll still be huge), so I don't know if I'll swap.

Your state’s 24 hours in a day in the life of a Scout adventure

Arizona. There are too many options for only one 24-hour trip in a Traveler. Canyons? Deserts? Mountains? Rivers? Lakes? We'd probably go to MartAnne's in Flagstaff for a traditional Mexican breakfast Take the Traveler up to the main Colorado river put-in at Lees Ferry, set up camp. Head up...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

I've been looking for a good photo of a 1920s EV charging station so I can replicate it and hide my modern charger inside of it with analog gauges on the outside.

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Did up heat maps. Note that these are straight-line distances, not road-travel distances. Here's the map of locations within 50 miles of a DCFC (again, not necessarily guaranteed to be compatible with your vehicle): Here's the map of locations within 100 miles of a DCFC. And here's a map...

What is More Important? - EV Charge Time or EV Range

Every state has more plugs than gas stations, by many thousands. Every plug is a potential charging station, even if it's just L1. For most drivers and most of the time, L1 and L2 chargers are more than adequate for most of the miles driven. Long road trips are edge cases. And I say this as...

Is There Any Comparison Data to Other Brands on GVW, Body Dimensions, Off-Road Angles

The biggest problem is the Terra and Traveler widths. They're really both too wide for some of the more interesting trails. Cannot do Devil's Pocket for example. The width of Devil's Pocket is officially 85 inches. With the mirrors taken off, the width of both the Traveler and the Terra is...

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

Final leg: We left Moab with 13986 miles on the odometer. We stopped in Bluff because I'd underestimated the impact my morning's coffee would have and needed a restroom break. There's a 125 kW DC charger in Bluff, so we plugged in for the 11 minutes we were at the Bear's Ears National Monument...

If you need a desert tester, I'll be here ready to put those beauties to the sandstone.

What is More Important? - EV Charge Time or EV Range

I prefer 320-350 miles range, 20 minute charge time. Most importantly, and independent of the vehicle, is a station with more than a dozen charger plugs. Range: I don't like sitting for more than 2-3 hours, so 200-250 miles is more than enough range for most road trips. Charge time: I think...
