  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    33 Months of EV driving...

I'm such a nerd about this stuff, it's fun to just think about and then write about it. We're going to the Electrify Expo tomorrow, where I hope to drive the Lucid Gravity. I was hoping Scout Motors would be here, but I know they have a limited number of mules they can ship around.

    33 Months of EV driving...

A typical day in the life of using my EVs for travel: Sitting in my office, I remembered that I have a trip coming up this afternoon. I'll be driving about 400 miles round trip, starting at 7000 feet elevation, going down to about 1000 feet elevation, and then climbing back up. The truck is...

    Long Way...

I'd prefer something in between and less exposed to spills and other issues. IMO, rarely used functions don't need to be part of a physical array like this.

    Long Way...

I had a pile of those rockers in my Tacoma. One of the things I'd like to see Scout offer is an upfitter panel so controls over various accessories can be plugged in.

Oh, and this was the prototype Rivian's UI. Not because they were considering this for the final vehicles but because they hadn't come close to finishing their real UI before the vehicles had to be shipped. Taken from this thread over at the Rivian forums...

    Long Way...

The Pan American Highway is like the standard shake-down run now, right? You're going to take a few Scout pre-production vehicles, or the first productions, from Alaska to South Carolina and film it as an advertisement for their capabilities, right? Right? ;)

    Long Way...

Thanks for the clarification, @R1TVT, I meant to add a bit about that and got distracted. The beginning of the trip is fraught with a LOT of learning in a very short time. It might start people off with the idea that it's an anti-EV series, but they persevere, learn a lot, and make it. Also...

How about a cheap version that i can actually take offroad

Now be a good Scout and give a fellow a tow to the next town, don't just pass them.

    Long Way...

If you haven't seen Long Way Up with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, it's a fun, 15,000 mile trip from the southern tip of South America (Ushuaia, Argentina) to Los Angeles, CA. It was filmed in 2019. They ride Harley Davidson Live Wire electric motorcycles (prototypes). In addition to the...

How about a cheap version that i can actually take offroad

What’s really sad is that I could actually come up with many uses for this on the ranch: it could go places I don’t want to drive my Lightning. But we (realistically) can’t get one here.

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I find ABRP to be especially conservative and rather poor at considering what’s coming up. For example, the EA charger at the first stop is much, much faster than the Chargepoint charger at the second stop (350 kW vs 50 kW). It makes more sense to stay at the EA charger for a little bit longer...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I did up heat maps of various radiuses (50, 100, and 200 miles) around the DC fast chargers in the US: https://community.scoutmotors.com/threads/whats-it-like-to-take-a-road-trip-in-a-truck-like-the-terra-f-150-lightning.1306/post-26873 Everywhere in the US is within 200 miles of at least one...

Switching Harvester to All EV Model?

I have a set of solar panels that we bring with us when we camp for more than a couple nights. I also bring a 5 kWh power station (like a Bluetti, but generic) that can power our fridge, our hot plates, coffee pot, etc. None of those appliances take a ton of energy. Those that draw high power...

    33 Months of EV driving...

This week my partner decided to drive the Lightning instead of the Mustang. Our road is gravel and very dusty. She has an important business meeting later this week and, in an effort to avoid another car wash visit, she isn't driving the car until it's time to leave for the meeting. She's been...

    Dealership cartels - horror stories

Don't forget the extra $10k they added because they "have the best interests of the consumer in mind."

    Dealership cartels - horror stories

My biggest story is from 2018 when my partner went looking at a used car a local dealer had advertised online. When she got there, they claimed it was several thousand more than advertised. She left. I went back the next day to look at the car. They offered it to me for a couple thousand less...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

My EE profs said the same thing. We had metal stools in the EE lab. I pointed out that the grounded anti-static pads under the metal stools mean that there was an easy path to ground for every station. One of the lab assistants disputed that was a good enough ground, sat down, touched a...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

We plugged in, started chatting, one of them took their dog for a short walk, then the other used the restroom, they came out, we debated whether they had enough to get home. I argued to give us 5 more minutes because why not. I convinced them. They made it home. I was there for about 20...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Haha! I have dozens of terrible stories about siphoning gas as a kid/teen/adult. That stuff's nasty. One of the reasons I'm happily all electric now. Plug it in, chew the fat for a few minutes, unplug and they're off.
