  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

This is why we’re leaving Ford. They made some really fantastic vehicles in the Lightning and the Mustang Mach-E. But then they chickened out/bent the knee/whatever and cancelled the best-selling BEV truck on the market. I simply don’t trust that they will stick to it with the newest BEV...

Scout Traveler SUV Green Off-Road Concept

No slides for me. I’ve had them two or three times and don’t like them. Also, no teardrops for me. Worst aerodynamics of any trailer type (for the given trailer size).

    R2 Launch Watch

I'm back from Phoenix where I had the opportunity to hear the seat cooling fans. There's a high pitch to the seat fans that's particularly annoying, so I probably won't use them very often if ever again while driving. I'll definitely turn them on while the vehicle is cooling after sitting in the...

    Off-topic stuff…

I hope you are alright after the impact. The Chevy Bolt EUV is a smaller car, so that might be wrong for you, but it’s usually a great bargain because too many people think it’s ugly. And I really enjoy driving it in the city. The Mustang Mach-E is a great car and it’s typically a pretty...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

We have a similar setup. ICECO is pretty indestructible. We've had our 60L dual zone for 6 years. Had one before it that we let go with the sale of a tent trailer and regretted it immediately. We use a 5 kWh, 3kW power station that we've had for about 3 years now. We have a dual element...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

I took the R2 on a 332 mile round trip drive today to drop some visiting family off at the airport. On the drive down, we lost 5000 feet of elevation, drove 133 miles, averaged 46.3 mph. Total energy use was 30.84 kWh, for 4.31 miles/kWh or an estimated range from full to empty of about 390-400...

    R2 Launch Watch

There are almost 20 pages of people discussing the removal of the fans from the seat backs. Most aren’t necessarily upset about the fan removal, but about the fact that there wasn’t a public announcement about the removal and people were learning about it by noticing it is missing from their...

    R2 Launch Watch

We have a VIN in the 07xxx range. I haven't had an issue with the cooling fans in the R2. But all of the vehicles with cooling seats I've driven have noisy fans in the seats, so I may just be used to it. I do think Rivian under-sized all of their fans in the R2. Small fans have to spin...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

The R2 is the first BEV in which I've felt carsick as a passenger. I thought I was done with car sickness after we got the Mustang Mach-E and Lightning, but it's come back with the R2. I don't get sick in the Mustang, Lightning, Silverado EV, Kona EV, Bolt EUV, Lucid Gravity, or any of the other...

    Infrastructure

Besides two regular road trip destinations (LA area ~monthly and Northern CA a couple times a year), most of our driving is to new places, so we try new chargers fairly frequently. There are some sections of highway that we traverse to get almost anywhere, and when there's a new charger...

    Infrastructure

I avoid brand-T charging stations. They're generally less reliable than the others in the sense of there's always a pile of the chargers offline and the rest are typically filled every-other-stall, which excludes many non-T vehicles. I've had far better charging success at non-T charging...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I make a monthly ~480 miles one-way drive in any one of our EVs and only stop twice in each direction. This is exactly the same number of times I stopped before we owned EVs. And we stop in the same places. Only one of the EVs has an EPA rating of more than 400 miles. (This trip has about 400...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

For us, there was no deadline on the ordering. We had our invitation early enough in the year that we could have ordered for a July delivery. We just weren’t ready.

    Rivian R2 Experiences

Its GVWR is 2904 pounds (1317 kg) and dry weight is about 2328 pounds (1056 kg). It was closer to the dry weight than the maximum weight. Note that for towing on a highway at a mostly-constant speed, the weight matters much less than the drag. For stop-and-go and mountain climbing, the weight...

    Always on Highbeams

We discussed this some time ago. The Rivians and Ford F-150 Lightning have this capability. I’m not sure of other vehicles, but I’d be surprised if others don’t as well. There are some instances where it’s not great. For example, the matrix headlights can be distracting if you encounter lots of...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

It does. We were in Off-Road, All-Terrain mode most of the time. There are only three sub-modes in Off-Road. I put it in soft sand mode where I got some wheel slippage because that turns off traction control.

    Rivian R2 Experiences

We didn't air down. There was only one spot where the tires slipped a bit and it was coming up out of that gully you see in the first photos. It's down, up, and a sharp turn to the right all at once. I took it at the wrong angle on my first approach and had to back out a bit so the turn wasn't...

    Rivian R2 Experiences

We took the R2 on an off-road adventure today. There’s an old, 50-mile wagon road between Williams, AZ and Jerome, AZ. Some parts are paved, some are gravel, and some are rated 6/10 in off-road difficulty. We encountered a Ford Bronco with 37” tires coming up the mountain while we were...

That's what I would like to see as well.

    General suggestion

You don’t need a 14-50R to get the benefits from 240 Volt outlet in the vehicle. A much smaller L14-30R is the standard for generator output. The size of the standard face of a L14-30R is only 39.6 mm while the SAE J3400 (NACS) EV charging receptacle's largest dimension is 49.1mm. A 30 Amp (7.2...
