  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Please no erev!

The EREV is a hedge bet. Current battery tech gives people range anxiety. In 2 years, hard to say where solid state battery tech will be - people may want to wait for Scout to offer it rather than get the EREV, and once Scout does offer solid state, it is likely to seriously hurt EREV demand...

Planned obsolescence and lasting a lifetime

Sadly the Scout will be both. We know that at the heart of this vehicle is tech, which will be superseded - in a short number of years, there will definitely be something better. Still, we want it to last, not just for as far as we own it (maybe 5 years, maybe 20) - but long enough that it has...

Optional Diesel Range Extender for Scout EREV Models

Love my diesel VW - but doubt VW will risk the US political system again with a diesel anytime soon.

    Solid State Battery that's baked

Hard to keep track of facts vs hype - but I suspect solid state batteries do exist in test vehicles. Weather or not if they are ready for production (or only being tested to find the weaknesses), or if they are simply too expensive for production - those are the real problems. Then the...

    She's right you know.

First to mind is always Jetsons - but probably not the right vibe for the Scout.

Flat Tow capability to beat Jeep

FWIW, I think, at least not all that long ago, a decent amount of Ford Trucks could be flat towed. The problem - they were too heavy for many vehicles to really flat tow them. So while I do hope that the Scout can be flat towed - I also recognize that an EV the size of the Scout is going to...

    What’s your purchasing plan?

Hard to predict the future, but easier to view the past. Our JLURD was a line by line custom order - but it was replacing a 2 year old JLUR, so knew what we did not have and REALLY wanted on the replacement. Honestly, we knew within about 1hr of buying the first some of the mistakes we made -...

Well, just from the glace - at least I don't have to worry about wanting to buy the next Ford EV.

    FM Radio

I live in the middle of nowhere - but we have "2" stations that are pretty good. They are 2, with 2 call signs and 2 broadcast towers - but they broadcast the exact same lineup as far as I know (unless perhaps, some very small things change locally - such as advertisements). It is possible...

In all fairness - the electrical power train and motor are less weight than the gas. You need to look at the system as a whole, not just the energy density of the batteries. But yes, we are not there yet.

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

The only real chance that chemistry will be changed before launch is if launch of the BEV is significantly delayed (as in years). That said, just because there is new chemistry out 5 years later, it does not really make your current vehicle useless - it just cuts into the resale value some. At...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

No problem if the one dealership has franchise agreements with multiple brands under VW Group. But it requires multiple franchise agreements. Towns I have lived in, they usually were separate locations (even if the dealerships had common ownership - I never investigated that). Now when I...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

VW group has a lot of brands under it. With a couple exceptions, they don't share franchises (I think I might have heard of a Audi/VW dealer). But have never heard of a Bentley, Porsche, or International Harvester combined with a VW dealer. They have a VERY long history of keeping vehicle...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

Probably common enough - but button overrides on driver settings. That way there is not any issue of who's keys are in the car (or who's keys are in it first). I guess facial recognition of the driver would work, but I will be a Luddite here - an override button is fine.

    May 2026 update???

All depends on what the update has in it. But doubt the June will have the first test runs yet.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I use Google maps fairly often. There seems to be vehicles it works better in, and some it works worse. I have not figured out why, but would not be surprised if part of it is if the vehicle is running the app or the phone. But in all fairness - it might just be changes in the app itself...

Harvester - assumptions vs. reality - seeking to know more

I think it should closely mirror average consumption at highway speed without any unique load. The battery is necessary for surges - but should not necessarily have significant discharge (depending on the mode I guess). We can only guess at modes - a force EV mode (that will take the battery...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

My Ford (2017) has a terrible phone interface. It wants to keep its own favorites, rather than using my phones - so my favorites are always wrong (and to find numbers I end up getting the entire directory). It took me quite a few years, but I am converting to using voice dialing with it...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

per google, looks like $1k non-refundable was the standard on converting a reservation to an order on the original Rivian and Cybertruck. I was surprised. Apparently Rivian likes final payment a minimum of 24hrs before delivery (perhaps that varies, depending on delivery method). Tesla...

As we get closer to launch. Feature Requests & Real‑World Feedback for Scout

Following is from old memory, could be partially to entirely incorrect. AC motors can have issues with desyncing when under heavy load. You could always just use a larger motor, but that is not weight efficient. DC motors will generally just try to draw more current (and potentially...
