  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Home charging setup costs

Our Tesla Destination Charger on a two-pole 60A breaker in our 200A main panel was $750 installed by a licensed EC.

    Integrated Trailer Brake Controller

We had to get a custom wire interface for our Tekonsha Prodigy controller for our tow-package Touareg. Not crazy about this as an after-market accessory, and having to lean down toward the footwell for manual actuation is less great. Would love to have this included as factory standard when...

    [Terra] Bed tie down points

As good as graded sit-flat bed plane D-rings are, I don’t dig having to try and work around items in the bed to get to such low tie-down points. Having points at least halfway up the bed walls, especially when the top of the bed walls are over 48” above ground level, make reaching in to...

    Actual pricing

It is EXTREMELY unlikely there will be EV incentives by the time Scouts roll off the line.

    Driving Sounds

As long as I can TURN THESE OFF. Tire tread noise, a bit of wind through the open top, and my music are the sounds I need.

    Tesla Powerwall

I believe that Tesla has transitioned to their own installers for things at the solar and Powerwall tiers.

    Tesla Powerwall

Highly recommend driver side if Tesla (as you prefer to park in your garage or drive), or hold to install until we know where port will be on production Scouts.

    Where are EV chargers needed

There are lots of options for 30A campsite adapters for such charging. https://a.co/d/cLVjGX2

    Tesla Powerwall

This is our installation on a brick pier in the garage, about 60" AFF. Less than 14" wide, that pier you see. PVC flex conduit out the top to the top of our 200A main panel from about 10' away.

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

I updated the breaker type we're using for our Level 2. It's Eaton, but I don't hold that against our EC. He hasn't let us down yet, LOL. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Eaton-Type-BR-60-Amp-2-Pole-Standard-Trip-Circuit-Breaker/1114115?idProductFound=false&idExtracted=false

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

I'm in the commercial trades for advanced lighting controls, so would advise finding a residential contractor that does such small projects. They will do this for far less. You may be able to consolidate some other full size household circuits into tandems and free up some space for the...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

In North Carolina - and who knows what will happen to solar / EVs now - we used to have a credit for such installations. Maybe $1K for such. I don't know why people are paying $1300 to install a $420 charger. Unless you're penetrating walls to outside or running a long distance (you shouldn't...

    Tesla Powerwall

My brother has three Powerwalls installed with Tesla solar on the roof. Level 2 "Wall Charger" (50A max on two-pole 30A breaker). What do you need to know?

Manual Control of 4x4 system instead of silly GOAT like modes

Great video. Land Rover came from front / center (selectable in cab) / rear differential on ladder frame design. They integrated TC and HDC as early as Freelander, and they are the benchmark. Of course, I've owned a half-dozen of them, and driven from Canada to Guatemala (much of this...

Terra- Remove LED trim light on Tailgate

@Scout Motor Co it would be brilliant if your headlight, tail light, markers (LED boards / drivers for marker lighting) were easily accessible for owner replacement. Example (Failure): The headlight cluster DRL "eyebrows" on VW Touaregs are now failing, and VW is charging $1300 to replace the...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

We've used Tesla Destination Chargers at some hotels between Charlotte and Myrtle Beach. They were free to use for guests. Not sure how they were installed, but assuming they are on two-pole 20A or two-pole 30A breaker.

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

We have Tesla Destination Charger (Level 2 "Wall Connector" this week), on an Eaton BR260 two-pole breaker, delivering the max 50A charging. It was $420 + $250 for the EC to install it within 10' of our main panel. Easy. https://shop.tesla.com/product/wall-connector

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

Has there been chatter that Harvester will be a Diesel platform?

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

It’s all fascinating, and clearly, there are some clever engineering people here. At the end of the day, if our suspicions and the realities of current technology proof out, Scout Harvester won’t be classifiable as an EV. PHEV perhaps. The important factors for many will be electric torque...
