  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Self Healing Systems -> Scout Opportunity

I respect your opinion, but personally I don't want AI tweaking my vehicle. I don't even trust highly qualified technicians with my cars. I tend to do my own maintenance using external diagnostics. I would probably be OK with something a bit smarter than a check engine light, but only notifications.

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

@cyure is correct. You want lose your place in line, however it appears the EREV will be released earlier. I also swapped to BEV based on my driving needs. Even though it is likely that I'll have to wait for my BEV while others are loving their EREVs, I can't see me swapping back to EREV. And...

It's obvious to me that several car manufacturers are watching SM very closely and trying to come in ahead of Scout. There are likely corporate spies among us!

Modesto Scouts | Colton’s Scout Collection & Updates

For me, option 2 can be more of a safety issue than the small OEM mirrors. Here's how it works with my 79 Scout which I think may be typical. The option 2 mirror gets out of adjustment and it's either cold or rainy, so your window is up. You can't easily roll down the window, because either the...

Modesto Scouts | Colton’s Scout Collection & Updates

I've struggled with the same question about the mirrors. Currently mine are like your option 1. The other pro with these is if you are in a tight spot they will generally "knock away". Option 2 definitely look better. The problem with option 2 if I remember correctly, if true to the OEM, the...

    FB find of the day

Wow. That green 800 is so close to what my dad's Scout was. Same green with short hardtop cab. Thanks for posting.

I'm interested in what you plan for your headliner. I need to replace mine in my 79 Scout.

So Alan Wilson says the franchise laws are "constitutional", but is that what we are really debating here? The real problem is there is not Consumer Freedom in a nation where free enterprise is the norm. The laws are outdated. And the number one consumer complaints in South Carolina are...just...

So how does the government tax vehicles that have been converted to EVs?

Exactly! What is worse is that in a way the dealerships have leverage with the media. Can you imagine if newspapers and local TV challenged the franchise laws? Dealerships would pull their ads immediately. And there are a tremendous number of dealership advertisements as I am sure we all know.

Hopefully there is positive side to this and that is bringing public awareness about state franchise laws. When you hear dealerships saying that they provide value to their customers, then I cringe. I'm guessing that the experience most folks have with dealerships is not positive. If it were...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

I didn't make it 90 days without doing some tinkering with my new EV. Today I installed an aftermarket hitch and it wasn't exactly just a bolt-on undertaking. The Ioniq 5 XRT can come with a factory installed hitch, however the one I bought did not have one. But this kind of work allows for some...

    Bluey The 1979 Scout II

Fortunately, I have always been keenly aware of the rust issues with Scouts. When I repainted it in 1984, I removed and disassembled all the exterior body parts except I did not remove the body from the frame. All parts were rust treated and painted inside and out to prevent rust from the inside...
