  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

To be clear, the vehicles are still on the list. They’re just not obvious winners.

We als Yeah, but those aren’t the apps we use. :) Okay, I do use Apple Music for now, but will likely go to a different app; I’m not a fan of its random music algorithm nor several other missing functions like “never play this artist.” We primarily use Libby and Libro.FM for audiobooks. And...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

The lack of physical interfaces and the lack of phone integration are major downgrades for the Rivians. I would love it if we could rent one for a month to get a feel for whether we would be able to let go of those impressions.

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

This is one of the things that’s unclear. I thought there was discussion and some round-robin and then I got lost in what the final word really is. There was a mention of projection from the phone to the vehicle. But that isn’t two-way on the R1s— I can’t use the Rivian screen to control the...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

I test drove the Kia EV9 and it is a boring vehicle. But that’s all I walked away with. “Meh.” I don’t care about styling, appearance, etc., I care about function. And the EV9 hits most of our demands. A used one would probably fit us better.

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

If the Rivian R2 had a physical interface, it would probably win. But it’s missing physical buttons and it’s missing Android Auto. We’ve test-driven the R1 multiple times trying to convince ourselves that the R2 would meet all of our desires. But the absolutely nonsensical war on buttons is...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

The vehicles in our list include the following. They don't necessarily meet all of those desires. This list is not in order of preference. There are probably some others that might fit the list as well. I will update this list from time-to-time as we consider other demands we remember. Rivian...

Top desires include: 8+ inches ground clearance AWD ~300 miles range < ~$50k Physical user interface Comfortable seats < ~190 inches long < ~72 inches tall < ~77 inches wide Decent DCFC charge rate (Mustang Mach-E like or better) Hatchback, SUV, or Crossover body Android Auto interface At least...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

I was asked to post about my shopping plans while we wait for the Traveler BEV. Every 5 years or so we start looking at what our next vehicle might be. We don’t necessarily replace what we have, but we do start shopping. The Traveler BEV is likely to be our next long-term owned vehicle. But in...

We are cross shopping a lot of vehicles. Top desires include: 8+ inches ground clearance AWD ~300 miles range < ~$50k Physical user interface Comfortable seats < ~190 inches long < ~72 inches tall < ~77 inches wide Decent DCFC charge rate (Mustang Mach-E like or better) Hatchback, SUV, or...

I didn't think the article was written by Rivian.

Help me decide BEV or EREV

There are a lot of rumors going on, lots of ai-echo-chambering, and etc. I think it’s fair to lease an interim vehicle while waiting. We may end up doing so if we decide this winter that the Mustang can’t handle the snow.

That’s a really strange headline for “the R2 is more efficient than the R1.”

Huh. Seems like no less speculation than we have seen to-date.

What’s the summary? I’m not brave enough to download files from forums.

One way to solve this would be to take a page out of aerobatic airplane (inverted) engines and use a 3-way shuttle valve with pickup tubes pointing in all of the possible ways and to add a dry sump pump. One of the reasons the engine isn’t just coming from the factory today is because they need...

I’ll trust Ford again when they fire Farley, stop flapping in the political winds, and deliver several new BEVs for longer than an election cycle.
