  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

Today I test drove the Subaru Uncharted. TL;DR: It’s fine. First impressions: The very first thing I noticed was that there’s no rear windshield wiper. That’s a major strike against it. If it had a halfway-decently-engineered coefficient of drag, that might have given them a half-point...

    Harvester Towing

There’s a cost, weight, and complexity trade-off. If you want the Harvester to be able to directly energize the motors, then you have to give up its ability to charge the battery. If you want the Harvester to charge the battery, then you have to give up the ability to directly energize the...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

I don’t trust self-drive (I’ve worked in the software/hardware realm where this was originally developed for low-speed planetary robots and I’ve seen it go wrong at high speeds). I’ll use it to rest my hands/arms/shoulder or open a drink, but not to take my eyes off the road for the amount of...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

It can be controlled via bluetooth audio controls for start/stop/next/etc, but if I’m driving alone and want to start a different book, switch to podcasts, etc., then without the apps on the vehicle screen I’d either have to pull over and make the selection or (dangerously) fumble with the...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

Oh, I know. I’m just impatient.

Help me decide BEV or EREV

Yeah, it would be nice if Rivian would put some R2s into their show rooms and let people test drive them.

I didn't say get rid of the Wrangler... :)

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

A used BEV bought today seems likely to be worth more in two years.

No. It's too big. This would be my partner's daily driver and she's not even convinced the R1S isn't too big.

Yes. It also enables Android Auto. It’s about $500 last time I checked. And I’ve found some people have issues with it. It’s annoying that it’s not built in. But if we end up with an R2 or a used R1S, we’ll almost certainly be getting that too.

We also test drove a Lucid Gravity on the same day we drove the Rivian R1S. Yes, we’re cross-shopping $120k vehicles with $40k vehicles. That’s how we roll. We cannot even come close to affording a used Gravity, much less a new one. And it’s not an off-roader. But it’s another fantastic feat of...

Thanks! I write for a living and try to do a decent job even when it’s not my job-job. I’m not so good with videos, especially the editing aspects. If I had someone who liked to do the video editing, it might be a different story. Yeah, I have to regularly adjust the vents for various reasons...

I have no interest in any fossil-fueled vehicles, so a hybrid anything wouldn’t even make the list to test-drive.

I will. Here’s a review of the R1S we test drove multiple times in the past month: We test drove a 2026 Rivian R1S with the Max Pack, Dual Motor and whatever else it had “Adventure," maybe? I still don’t understand the option/package naming schemes nor what comes with them. The roof was...

We haven’t had the chance yet. We’ll be going to look at one in the next couple of weeks.

Even the long-term rentals in big cities (Flex Car, for example) don’t have a Rivian. This seems like a great business model that’s missing from the world: 1 to 11 month lease of an EV so people can get a feel for the vehicle before they commit. Anyone have a few tens of millions of dollars...

Oh, the Turo thing… We live in a small town and there are barely any Rivians in town…We’ve found none on the various long-term rental offerings.

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

We have a friend with the Solterra, and they mostly love it. There are a couple of issues they have with it, only one of which is a big deal. I don’t know if we could handle the slower charge rate. We do a lot of road tripping and we’d like to be able to take either vehicle. We have several...
