  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Route 66 Centennial Road Trip

I drive between your location (well, I turn south on the 15 and head over the Cajon pass and into the LA Valley) and the Flagstaff area about once a month. We used to do it in the Mustang Mach-E (Extended Range, AWD), but when we got the Lightning, that became our road trip vehicle. They have...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

We left home with 100% charge and stopped for lunch about 150 miles after leaving home. We arrived with 71% charge. We spent our normal amount of time at this lunch stop: 25 minutes. Using the brand T charger, we charged up to 95%. That's an average of 118 kW, mostly above the 80% soc mark...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

We've had the Silverado for less than two days and already added the desert pinstriping all trucks in AZ and UT deserve to sport. We're on our way to Boulder, CO so I can teach a couple of workshops. Decided to take a short off-road / desert trail jaunt to test out the truck. It would be...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

Not really. My experience with the sw stack so far is far superior to any other truck on the market. I hated Rivian's software. Ford's was slow, though functional. Chevrolet is simply suffering from a mistake in interface design by having removed the Start/Stop button.

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

I've grown tired of the constant prosyletizing from the anti-buttoners. It doesn't seem worth engaging. They don't seem to care to learn about why the buttons are useful to people who use their vehicles differently from them. Regardless, I believe I may have found a solution to GM's mistake of...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

And I have already run into another stupid application of the auto-off programming (no Start/Stop button): To program the garage door opener, I have to climb a 16 foot ladder to tell the garage door opener to activate its pairing. But I only have 30 seconds to program the transmitter in the...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

We'll be taking a road trip in the Silverado this weekend. It will cover total of about 1500 miles. I will reply here with impressions compared with the Lightning. I expect nearly the same stops we've made with the Lightning because our mealtimes and restroom needs don't change just because we...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

I ordered a set of used 18" Hummer EV wheels. Then I realized I'll have to re calibrate the speedometer for smaller diameter tires... And GM has gone the way of anti-consumer and locked out these kinds of settings. It's tough because a scammer can run big tires to reduce the miles measured...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

There are approximately 8 new and used Silverado EVs in all of Arizona. Most of them have smaller batteries. No Trail Boss in Arizona. I’ll be researching options to replace the 24s. Probably will go with two sets of wheels: 20s with 32” tires and 18s with 32-33” tires. But we’ll see how much...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

I'm not a loyalist--brand doesn't matter to me. I just look for what works best for us. The Lightning is a fantastic truck and I'm STILL feeling a bit unsure of this decision. Ford built a capable truck that just happened to be an EV. They made some poor UX decisions but overall got it right...

Shopping for a “new” BEV while waiting for the Scout Traveler BEV.

Last night I traded the 2023 Lightning Lariat Extended Range with 35,600 miles on it for a 2024 Silverado RST (Max Range) with 10,000 miles on it. First impressions: It’s only slightly smaller, but handles city driving much better. It’s more maneuverable with the rear steering, but I’m not...

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

And, of course, this is all speculation until Scout releases more information. Just fun mental exercises to think about how they might solve the various complications… I’m certainly not saying I know what solution they’re going to find. I’m not an automotive engineer, much less an automotive...

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

I imagined something similar, but they’ve said the bumper would be modular and replaceable. So I don’t think they’ll put any kind of thermal management in there. There are three major problems with the underbody thermal management approach anyway (three that I can think of at this moment)...

    Minimizing complexity

In my opinion, choosing the BEV over the Harvester will result in a 90% reduction in complexity. Everything else is minor.

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

We don’t know what Scout is going to do yet. There are sensible decisions that could be made in either direction: an integrated cooling system or a completely separate, self-contained cooling system. If it’s integrated with the battery/motors/etc, it’ll probably require diverter valves in key...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

The nearly-instant response is something I had to get used to and now will never want to lose. With my Tacoma, turning onto the highway had to include the hesitation of a gas engine on hard acceleration as part of the plan. It took a couple of months for me to get used to the Lightning’s...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

The issue is nobody is taught how to do this properly. Neither the merging drivers nor the through lane drivers. It's similar to the race to the next slow down/stop in busy traffic. If everyone drove 35 for a mile instead of racing up to 75, the standing waves of stoppage would clear up and...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Staying in the merging lane until the end is better for traffic overall, IF the through-lane drivers aren't jerks about the merging traffic zippering in...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I’m just boring. The acceleration is fantastic. Every time I turn from my gravel road onto the highway (not interstate), I hit the speed limit within 3 seconds / 120 feet. Every time I go from the highway to the freeway, I’ll go from about 20 mph to up to 90 by the end of the...
