  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    Cab Options

If you want a regular cab, compact truck, it's on the way: https://www.slate.auto/ At least around here, trucks are daily drivers. They need to be able to take the whole family to dinner. They also need to be able to take the whole family (along with the boat) to the lake. Since they now...

5klbs towing cap with gas range extender?

Having driven EVs for 16 years now, I can tell you that the "next battery breakthrough" has been 2 years away that entire time. It's always just around the corner. Seriously, there is 0% chance there will be any advances in batteries in the next 2 years that will dethrone NMC/LFP in energy...

    Generator + Solar integration

I'm going to reply to myself as I thought about this more. There is mechanism to convert to 12VDC in order to charge the standby battery. So maybe that system could be run backwards in order to charge the HV battery with 12VDC solar.

    Generator + Solar integration

Wait. What!? This just broke my brain. I had no idea you could trick an EV into AC charging while driving. What sorcery is this? This is a fascinating idea. If you already have a 240V generator for home backup use (so it is a sunk cost), this could give you Harvester capability when you...

    Headed up display with navigation.

I am all for using inertial navigation, but one huge feature of new connected navigation is routing around traffic. I have 2 freeway options to head into town so it is nice to know if there's an accident on one or the other. Because of that I find myself using navigation all the time, even if...

TFL dumping on Scout in there latest video

Negativity gets clicks. Same reason for the old saying about the news business, "if it bleeds it leads." Humans are wired to be afraid of the sabre-tooth tiger hiding in the grass. We pay much more attention to the negative than the positive. Bottom line is that none of this really matters...

Don't let the Scout become a status symbol; why $60k misses the point of the Revival

Woah. Thank you @robothero. I hadn't realized that the 208" number for the Traveller was with the spare. That had caused me to wonder why they didn't add a 3rd row but now it makes sense. So it's actually 8" shorter than my Model X. Interesting....

    Terra Cabana Top

I shudder to think what it wold cost if I ever have to replace it but the Model X windshield is fantastic. It goes all the way back to the B pillars. It's tinted at the top and the sun shades fold out of the A pillars and magnetically connect to the rear view mirror. I honestly haven't...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I put the chances that Scout will change battery chemistry before launch at 0%. The risks involved in a newer chemistry radically outweigh any benefits. The current range numbers are competitive and there is already enough risk in a brand new company, brand new product, brand new factory, etc...

    Consumer Reports - Interesting

That would require reservation holders to be patient. :ROFLMAO: But that does lean towards launching BEV first as it is simpler. By definition, hybrids are more complicated as you are dealing with multiple propulsion systems. Scout does not seem to trying to shove the vehicles out the door...

Don't let the Scout become a status symbol; why $60k misses the point of the Revival

Just realize that the Terra and Traveller are full-size trucks/SUVs. So the comparison is with a Chevy Tahoe or Ioniq 9 (both start at $60k), not a 5. As did Tesla and Rivian, Scout is talking about their second round vehicles being smaller/cheaper. Bottom line is that Scout is down the track...

    The Start/Stop Button

I was thinking specifically about your having to change the charge mode settings. In that instance, say if I need to manually charge the car and bypass the schedule, I will open the car door but just reach across the seat and touch the screen - I won't actually sit in the driver's seat. So...

    The Start/Stop Button

Every non-manual transmission car I have ever seen requires you to have your foot on the brake before shifting gears. Creep vs Hold should be a choice. Tesla has removed that choice and only allows Hold. My wife still has Creep in her 2018 Model S and loves it. I like Hold so I don't have to...

    The Start/Stop Button

Sorry, I thought you were referring to getting into the car to change the charging settings on the screen (that's what I meant by peck around on the screen).

    The Start/Stop Button

I am assuming you still need to press and hold the brake pedal before you can shift? Here is how that goes in a Tesla... Open the door. Car "wakes up" and center screen turns on. You can mess with the navigation, radio, HVAC, etc all you want. When you are ready to drive you press the brake...

    The Start/Stop Button

Tesla remembers charge preferences based on location so that has a known solution. They do the same for liftgate height and mirror folding. I am not aware of it saving preferences based on voltage but I can't say that I've tried. As for getting in and changing the charge settings, if you just...

    The Start/Stop Button

But it needs to work both ways on startup too. Why have to do extra things in order to drive when they serve no purpose? Why not make you stand in front of a camera and do a pirouette before the car will turn on? Ok, I'm going to go sit in the corner for a while......

    The Start/Stop Button

There are no cheat codes. I have no idea what that weird GM thing about dancing on the brake pedal is about. That is definitely not present in any clean sheet EV models (which Scout is). What is the process in an ICE? Unlock the car, sit in the seat, push button to start engine, press the...

    The Start/Stop Button

But how many times are you "looking at the stars" or "needing the headlights on" vs just getting into the car and driving and then getting out of the car and going inside? I'm am guessing it is at least 100:1. So you want to add 30 seconds of waiting and pushing useless buttons to every drive...

    The Start/Stop Button

Just don't give them the key? Also, a Start button won't slow down a 9 year old. They have watched you push the start button hundreds of times - they know what to do if they want to drive. If you are really worried, Tesla has a security feature called "PIN to drive" where you have to enter a...
