  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Realistic range concerns.

I'll go right ahead and mention the range on my 20 gallon 196 is less than 250 miles. A 300 mile range with a reasonable recharge time would fit my lifestyle, but I'm not every owner. Is there any reason aftermarket/RV trailer mfrs can't put extended range batteries under an RV floor with a...

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

I know full well Why BEV's don't have a traditional neutral... I'm saying I'd like a safeguard against a runaway vehicle with a stuck/inop accelerator, a way to fully disengage the drive system & allow freewheeling, or to push it out of the way easily if disabled.

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

Snap. I've read Bios of some of the Scout team... I'm not too worried about their abilities and intention in regards to designing this vehicle. I think Scout has a real opportunity to redefine what a Utility is. If you do the opposite of what literally every other automaker is doing right now...

Well used, like they should be.

Are there ways to be involved?

I'm in the North Bay Area, if there's anything I can do in an official capacity I'd love to offer my time! I wear many hats; metalworking, mechanics, customer service, warehouse logistics... and have owned three different models of Scout. A Terra, Scout II, and now a 68 800 that's my DD. I'm...

    Owner Maintenance

Most current Scout owners are used to crawling into the engine bay & taking care of a lot of their own maintenance and repairs... From a simple belt replacement to SOA conversions, we like to get our hands dirty on our own machines. I understand BEV's are a totally different critter when it...

    Front Hinged Hood

The 80/800 has a rear-hinged hood... no reason to add an obstacle to a cargo area. I couldn't imagine lifting a heavy bag over a high front fender & through the triangle formed with the open hood. I always found the front-hinged hoods on our Terra and 79 Scout II to be rather a pain in the...

    Powertrain Wants

Mazda has a Wankel Rotary that's compact and lightweight enough to use as a generator rather than a connected part of the powertrain... a strong point of the Rotary is good performance at a high constant rpm.

    Community and Events Ideas

Any kind of meet I could manage would need to be local. I'm not trailering my Rig anywhere, & long trips are few & far, far, between. That shouldn't be too much of an issue in the Bay Area/Napa/Sonoma County. Monterey Car Week/Pebble Beach would be a blast to mob the town with a shambling...

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

Ford knocked the leather off the ball visually. I still haven't sat in a New Bronco, but everything I've seen looks great on the inside, although I'd like more physical switchwork & controls usable with gloves on. Modern comfort is necessary these days... but a rugged throwback interior with...

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

I'm going to stir up the pot a little, and say that I don't think the Scout needs to be overpowered... My 800 with 107/170 hp/tq does just fine with its gearing. While I'd like to pick up speed a little quicker than I do, anything over 60 mph starts to feel adventurous, depending on the road...

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

Personally, I think if you want to keep it Funky and Retro looking, you should Ape the look of the 800 rather than the Scout II... there's a lot more character in the flares & swept upper rear 1/4... and the "Ballcap" overhang over the windshield is one of my favorite characteristics. The...

Wards Auto Article on Scout Motors

My uncle just retired from over 45 years the Auto industry... sales & then financing & dealership management for JLR. He started out selling the IH brand under AMC as a teenager. I'd be lying if I said he didn't predict almost every move VW's made since acquiring the Scout name what now seems...

What is the size of the New Scout?

Old-School style... I don't get what you mean, like a 3 row Traveler? The First SUV offerings were nowhere near the size of an F150. The longest wheelbase offered on a Scout IIRC was the Terra and Traveler at 118"WB, the 80 thru the Scout II were 100"... The New Bronco is offered in 100" and...

    Minnesota Scout Club

Our first Scout, a 76 Terra, came from the IHC dealership in Badger, MN... it came as a 2wd, and by 1985 had rusted up to the gas cap. Dad replaced all the body panels & found an abandoned 4wd Scout in a field & commandeered the drivetrain for a 4wd conversion for my older brother's 16th...

    Scout Design Ideas

I know your engineers are busy, but please find the time/resources to get a team to design a Branded BEV Conversion. PLEASE? I love the whine of the timing gears & thump of my 3.2 4 cylinder... but times have changed. I could fuel my Rig from our Solar/Battery array at our Northern CA home...

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

I'm toying with the idea of electrifying my binder eventually... there's room for battery blocks in front of the rear tires where the saddle tanks are, more room under the bed & room under the hood for additional batteries. I wonder if each axle will have its own motor & differential, or if...
