  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

So what does everyone think of the first new Scout designs...

I also just watched that video today and was impressed by how clearly the vision SM seems to have about these vehicles. I think they're headed in the right direction and I think they'll do a good job. I'm really looking forward to seeing the reveal at the end of October!

The Road to Scout Production - All the latest updates in one place...

That sounds like a lot of extra complexity. I think it would be better to just design everything to be both rugged but also practical for daily use. I'm sure they'll be able to find that balance.

The Key EV Tech I'm looking for in Scout Vehicles

You're right. I guess Rivians count as off-roaders and I suppose the Hummer EV would count as well. I should have said "affordable" off-roaders as all of those vehicles cost well over $100k so to me they may as well not exist.

Battery technology is improving all the time but it won't make a 17 kWh pack much lighter than it already is. This is why it's better to just design the vehicle to have the range you need. You can make other components of the vehicle lighter so that the overall vehicle weight is similar to...

    Hybrid - too please?

EVs are the only growth market in the industry. If the Germans really want to go high volume I look forward to seeing an ever-increasing variety of battery electric vehicles on the road!

The Key EV Tech I'm looking for in Scout Vehicles

I for one am very happy Scout will be all electric. There are no all-electric off road vehicles on the market so Scout will be filling an important and as-yet unmet demand niche. Given that battery electric is indeed the future of all vehicles I've given some thought to the sort of technologies...

    Hybrid - too please?

Hybrids are just gas cars wearing a lazy disguise. They don't save you much fuel (or money!), especially if you do a lot of highway driving. They still pollute, they still mean annoying trips to the gas station, they usually cost more than an equivalent gas-only vehicle and they are more...

The Cybertruck isn't exactly a great example of anything other than one man's hubris. Also the "range extender" for it doesn't even exist right now and needs to be installed by the dealership with special tools. Your logic is flawed in the sense that it won't solve the problem you perceive. At...

I mean same, really, when you guys are all talking in miles. haha I don't know what miles are and keep having to see if 200 miles is enough or 300 miles. What are those in REAL units?!? ;P I know nautical miles from my time as a pilot and at least those make sense! But statute miles!? Never! haha

    MAX RANGE

Anything over 500 km range is gravy. Not interested in any backup power source or other nonsense. My battery wishlist is to have around 500 km of range, LFP battery chemistry, 800V architecture, and 250+ kW fast-charge speeds. A vehicle to X capability would also be appreciated. I know these...

Who would be a perfect brand ambassador?

Nick Offerman would be my pick. He's awesome.

Actually that's one big difference between EVs and combustion vehicles. Traffic jams usually help your range. EVs only really consume energy when they're moving so if you're sitting in traffic you won't be consuming much energy at all compared to a gas vehicle which still has to idle and thus...

There's a bit of a flaw in your logic there. In order to make a "50 mile boost pack that would immediately gives (sic) energy" it would mean that the vehicle would have to be engineered to accept a whole bunch of energy in a short amount of time. We typically refer to that as "charging speed"...

Excellent point! Yes there are a lot more reasons to have the charge port on the passenger side than the driver's side.

I fully expect Scouts to be as moddable as Wranglers or Broncos. Just because it's an EV doesn't mean you won't be able to add custom body parts or racks or lights or whatever. I'm hoping SM takes a page from Ineos and adds in a pre-wired but blank panel for additional custom switches and stuff...

Also, as a bilingual Canadian I'm happy to translate the above for those who don't speak our other official language. From TaconicBear: "My heritage is Canadian. Your comment about the touque awakened a thought I have about how SM needs to keep our nordic climate in mind in the design process...

Agreed! As a fellow Canadian I too am hoping SM keeps our cold climate in mind. I expect there to be a heat pump, preconditioning, battery heating, heated seats and steering wheel, etc. Launching without those basic cold climate features would be a dealbreaker for me. Winter tires I'm not...

"Scouts go first - Scouts come back" is an amazing slogan!! I love it! That definitely needs to be an official slogan and put on a bunch of merch. It's awesome.

I've done some more thinking on this and i'm hoping the vehicles use the aircraft-style cargo netting. The aviation industry uses are standardized rail / peg system that is robust, easy to use, readily available and just plain cool. The hook/pegs vary in design a bit but they all operate in the...
