  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Realistic range concerns.

EVs aren't as new as many seem to think, they've been around for almost two decades now in their modern form and are a fairly mature technology. Improvements have been incremental so don't believe the hype from some corners that some magical breakthrough will dramatically improve capacity, and...

    Realistic range concerns.

Yes but Aptera is an extraordinarily efficient design. It's shaped like a wing to reduce drag as much as physics will allow, it only has three wheels to reduce rolling resistance, and is made to be as light as physically possible. Literally everything about it is designed for maximum efficiency...

    Scout Color Poll #1

    I'm really hoping for yellow!

    Fusilier down and out......for now

Well believe it because it works and it works well! Pushing 3 tons down the road at highway speeds takes a lot of energy. Running a house is about 20 kWh a day and most EVs have over 60 kWh available in their battery packs. EV batteries are more than capable of handling the a house's needs. The...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

Ouch! That's pretty much double our on-peak rate and I charge overnight when electricity costs $0.026 CAD/kWh. On a full charge (around 70 kWh) that works out to $1.82 which gives me about 500km or so of range. And just to be clear, I wasn't backing up my whole house - just the important...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

You’ll be able to charge up the Scout anywhere with electricity. You could even hit up a camp site overnight and charge up while you sleep, lots of camp sites have power and let’s face it, most overlanding is just car camping with extra kit. Also, EVs work a bit differently than a combustion...

    Realistic range concerns.

Longer range means bigger battery which sounds fine but what that really means is “more expensive”. There are a lot of places to charge, even in the middle of nowhere, that many might not even realize exist. EV drivers can find them because we have apps and know what to look for. That’s not to...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

I mean I get where they’re coming from and I used to think like that as well. In theory yeah, the jerry can does seem like it would be faster and easier for example but you have to then think ‘okay, where do you fill the Jerry can?’ Where will you find a working gas pump? What about the lineup...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

Having lived through a natural disaster with an EV where we were without power for a week I can categorically say that I much prefer having an EV over a gas vehicle when the grid is down. Not only could it power our essential appliances for the entire time the power was out (in silence with no...

EV Sales Aren't Actually in Decline in North America

I've posted about this a couple of times but given how prevalent the idea that EV sales are on the way down is lately I felt maybe it deserves its own thread in order to discuss. For those who don't follow the industry as closely as I do or don't have a statistical background, it may come as a...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

Fun fact, there has not been an EV "slowdown" as is being widely reported. EVs have been on an exponential growth curve for years which as shown no signs of slowing down. I'm not sure where the whole "EVs are in decline" narrative started (I have some ideas though!) but it's false. The fact most...

    VW is investing in Rivian

Actually VW has been having a lot of issues with their EV platfrom tech, specifically around the software and architecture which is where Rivian has a clear advantage. Scout was already going to make its vehicles in the US so there wouldn't be any advantage from a subsidy standpoint in...

    Fusilier down and out......for now

I love how the "media" reports on the "slumping EV sales" as if it were a fact but it is objectively not. EV sales are not slumping are are actually hitting record levels. Have been for years now. The EV market is healthy an continues to increase every quarter. Someone is pushing a false...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Nope. This is a silly snake-oil gadget. It only produces 1.2 kW in ideal conditions. That's less than a standard wall outlet (which gives 1.5 kW). If there's a cloud or the sun moves behind a branch on just one of those panels it'll produce much less than the paltry 1.2 kW. Even at full...

The Key EV Tech I'm looking for in Scout Vehicles

It's not really a good application for solar panels. Solar panels are fragile, putting them on a vehicle with all the vibrations and impacts of rocks and other things isn't ideal. Aptera is doing it so we'll see how durable their panels end up being but even then, they're only getting around...

    VW is investing in Rivian

I just saw on Automotive News today that VW has been working on this Rivian thing for many months. They even sent over a couple of Audi vehicles and had Rivian take out the conventional electronics and put in their zonal technology. Apparently the VW people were super impressed by the advantages...

    VW is investing in Rivian

Here in Canada we tend to speak the king's English like the Brits, we don't speak 'American'. We spell "colour" correctly for example, and say "zed" instead of "zee" because only Americans say that particular letter of the alphabet so incorrectly! For Aussies, Kiwis, all other English speakers...

    VW is investing in Rivian

GM also doesn't support CarPlay but the Honda Prologue which is built on the GM Blazer EV platform does so I don't we can assume that just because Rivian doesn't have CarPlay Scout won't either.

    VW is investing in Rivian

I doubt Scout would be forced to give up its factory, Rivian is already well along in the design and build process of their own factory site and just needed more capital to get it done so I don’t see that as being a risk here. As for being competitors I see like this; Rivian is to Land Rover as...
