  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Option for Propane Gas generator for Electric + Gas option

Nope. I’d rather just have a big battery with an ability to tap into through standard plugs, and maybe a solar generator to harvest some energy at camp. Burning fossil fuels is not necessary anymore and I definitely don’t want to carry that toxic junk around. Plus combustion generators are loud...

    Drivetrain

To that point ICE sales peaked in 2017 and have been declining ever since. ALL the growth in the industry since 2017 has been from plug-in vehicles.

    Drivetrain

You misspelled “misinformation”. There is a whole lot of nonsense and anti-EV propaganda out there to try and convince people to stick to the status quo (because a few people make a LOT of money off you continually buying oil and gas). If you do any serious research though you quickly discover...

    12v battery access/cabin access

I agree. I think having manual overrides for key things like 12V access and door locks/latches is very prudent. I’m amazed that companies like Tesla get away with not having an accessible manual override to get out of the car (for example). My Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a physical key hidden in the...

    Intelligence

Actually there might be something to the OP's request in this thread. It would be nice if the fancy semi-autonomous cruise control had the ability to fail back to a more basic version. What I mean is this; My current ride is a Hyundai Ioniq 5. It has what they call HDA2 which means it does...

    Battery Life in Winter

I don't live in Norway but I live in Canada and have pretty much the same sort of weather as a Norwegian winter. EVs do great in the winter. Actually they're better than gas or diesel vehicles if I think about it. EVs take no time to heat up, they always start in the cold, the lower centre of...

    Battery Life in Winter

Heat pump makes all the difference. With my Ioniq 5 the advertised range is 480 km. In the summer I get about 500km of range and in the winter I get 480 km. My car has a heat pump though, and weather, road conditions and speed all play a factor in range.

    Brake lights

I've thought of this exact idea a few times before. I always thought it would be a great thing but I assume the laws and regulations governing brake lights are pretty specific and strict. Otherwise someone would have probably done it already. Anyway, I agree! If Scout could find a way to make it...

    Home charging setup costs

Around $2k is pretty typical for a level 2 EVSE install (electrical plus the charger combined). It's within the right ballpark. These will be $60k vehicles, if $2k is going to break the bank then you likely can't afford the truck either. My house is from the 1960's and had a 100A service with...

    Water and Batteries don't mix

EV battery packs are water tight. There's more to a hurricane than just water. To suggest that an EV can't handle 3 ft of water is ridiculous and obviously wrong. Scout can and absolutely should go after the off-road market. Combustion cars' days are numbered and it's a wide open market for EVs...

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

I wouldn't count on that. The current range claims are already pushing the limits of know battery technology given the size of vehicle and battery pack. Battery tech improves every year but it's incremental, not leaps and bounds. It's historically been on the order of 1 or 2% improvement per...

    Brake pedal behavior: Preference?

Not really sure if there's actually any point to this poll since friction brakes and regen are blended in all EVs. Regen braking is free with every electric motor. Friction brakes are necessary for low-speed braking (under around 10 km/hr) because regen loses effectiveness at low speed. So all...

    Accessories Poll For Scouts

Can the vinyl exterior graphics be 80's-inspired and run down the side of the vehicle?!? :D

US Dealer Slaps $20,000 Markup On VW ID. Buzz

I would have expected it to cost closer to the EV9 which it more or less competes with.

    Tell me about chargers

Most utilities won't have automated charging times yet. I'm currently a member of a small pilot program here in Ottawa with my local utility as they explore how best to implement such technology but it's early days still and not a solved problem. For now most utilities will offer some form of...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

By that logic I shouldn't have to fund the fire department or library because I never use those either. Thankfully "very few" people actually use the fire department. I've personally never had a house burn down or even a neighbour's house! Should those be pay-as-you-go too then? Of course not...

    Tell me about chargers

@SpaceEVDriver brings up a lot of excellent points but at the end of the day and to answer your question simply that all level 2 EVSE's do basically the same thing. They're all just fancy switches that safely allow AC electricity to flow into your EV. That said; some are basic and some are...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

Exactly how expensive do you think it is to charge an EV overnight?! Hotels will probably spend more money per year on toilet paper than they will on powering a bunch of level 2 EV chargers.

what's this in bed of Terra

Sounds awesome! I’ll contribute fried-cod fish tacos and maple-brisket tacos to add a Canadian twist.

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

When you're furnace and AC are due to be replaced get yourself a cold-climate heat pump too. They're magical devices and you'll be able to get rid of your gas line entirely (we did!). You can thank me later.
