  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

    What was your first job?

Not close to my first job - I am "retired" now. If you call playing with cows for hours a day retired. But one of my wife's friends families run a dairy and do agrotainment in the fall. So I have kind of gone full circle. I still deal with hay (ok, but use a truck, tractor, and skid loader...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

I think 1 year or 100hrs is a pretty common service interval on generators. That said, the 100hrs is so that the generator will be useful in an emergency - I think our whole house mentions that the interval can be stretched to 200hrs during an emergency. But that is still the rough equivalent...

    Onboard air compressor

Just one side note - I think it is recommended to run the engine while running the ARB dual due to it's amp draw. If Scout ends up wanting to put in a high capacity compressor - they might need to deal with powering it from the main battery rather than the AUX battery. That said, same problem...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Lease cost for drilling is generally is a rounding error - or at least it has been around me for the last 50 years. Royalty percentage on the other hand can be some significant money. Rounding error might be a bit cruel - but honestly, first royalty check can be 10x the lease bonus check...

    Onboard air compressor

While an offroad EV would probably be heavier than an ICE in general - I would bet it is more location, rim, and tire choice. And in all fairness, the super long fill times I recall were airing my ranch truck back up, not an offroad vehicle. I only took it down to 10 psi - but it wants to be...

    Onboard air compressor

for offroading, the only "issue" is having a compressor that has the duty cycle to air tires up after being aired down - and the volume to do it in a reasonable time. That said, reasonable time is relative I guess. Even the fastest electric vehicle compressors are not all that fast. I have a...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Recall when I was young, parents would want to run the car without the AC on, because it cost a few mpg. It works both ways.

Want a Scout. Don't want the Drama!

For fun, looked up global average gas prices - of course that is irrelevant without looking at corresponding electrical rates. Still, most of Europe looks like it above $6.50/gallon - with some countries hitting in over $9/gallon. The US looks like it is somewhere around the 30th percentile in...

    Accelleration

So far I have not come all that close to buying a car that cost more than my first house - but in all fairness, the person I purchased it from 1 year earlier bought it for $75k - so the Scout might end up coming close (but I paid $100, sold it 3 years later for $130 - saw it on Zillow a few...

    Try before you buy?

Eventually, I suspect the regional repair locations might have test units - but I seriously doubt early orders will get that chance. Best case is we will have more opportunities to see production ready models before taking delivery and that plenty of reviews of production ready models will...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

The last "car" I purchased was just over 10 years ago (there have been 2 trucks and 3 jeeps since then, but digressing). Then Tesla was looking like a 250 mile range, and my daily commute was 200+. Not really viable. I don't have the commute anymore, and a 350 mile range is just enough to...

    Define your lifestyle….

Used to kayak a lot. Started off Sea Kayaking, eventually doing quite a bit of white water and kayak polo. Still get out some exploring rivers and bays. Wish I could say there is a perfect solution-other than the lost strength of youth - I have not found it. You basically described the Thule...

    Regenerative braking

Read about EV sickness - never experienced it, but I have extreamly limited EV experience too. Some might be driving style - some is most likely a change in clues that we have become accustom to. I used to get car sickness - and still do if I can not watch the road. Second row is bad, third...

    The scout stake pockets

Have seen them used to make pen sides in the beds of trucks. I have done used stake pockets to put bed sides on my flatbed truck (I have 1' sides that are removable, but I use the stake holes to put a 4" rim around the flatbed). Likewise some trailers have them for stakes (very common on bed...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Some will depend on the size of the generator and the load on the vehicle. If Scout goes with a small generator, it will probably not be doing much to charge the vehicle, and will likely only be slowing the discharge if you are towing a load. If you are running at a deficit due to load -...

    EREV initial release only?

I kind of think EREV's are the next evolution of plug in hybrids. But then again, I see most hybrids as stepping stones anyway. The Terra has a problem that is less prominent in the Traveler. The Terra will be judged against 1/2 ton trucks. If it comes out with 1/2 the towing capacity, it...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I guess I am just a sceptic for the Slate (an an optimist for the Scout - yes, not rational, but such is life). Slate is advertising a base budget vehicle. I am pretty sure they fully intend to nickel and dime options - and even if you pay for them all, you still will not get a luxury...

    3rd row option

I do not recall how many years we had that particular station wagon - and by then I think most of my older brother's and sisters were in college anyway - so I recall sleeping in the back (with the seat down) more than riding in that reversed seat. I really only have one memory of riding in it...
