  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    R2 Launch Watch

I suspect the wiper placement change is real. In the configurator with the Standard, there’s a coating on the glass around the wiper. That would be difficult to not include if it was accidental.

What If the Harvester Shed 1,000 lbs and Got Better? The Case for LTO + EA211-ERV

There's still no use-case for LTO in anything you've had grokgpt write. LFP gives more electric range for lower cost, lower mass, lower volume, lower complexity, is easier to source, and gives better performance 100% of the time. LFP is significantly cheaper LFP has as high a charge rate as...

I haven’t had an issue with my Mustang or my Lightning. I replaced the Mustang’s 12V battery at about 3.5 years. Not because it had failed but because I usually replace batteries sometime in years 3-4. I think the biggest issue is that people don’t want to replace their 12V battery on the...

What If the Harvester Shed 1,000 lbs and Got Better? The Case for LTO + EA211-ERV

There are several misconceptions here. LFP is a far more mature battery technology than LTO. LFP was commercialized in 1991. LTO wasn’t commercialized until 2008. NMC and LFP both have more cycles than you suggest. LTO is less energy dense in both volume and in mass than either NMC or LFP The...

    Front Bench Seat Safety

One thing about airbag technology that has improved over the years is that it is now possible to control the final shape of the airbag. Manufacturers can now have them formed into things like "curtains." I don't know if Scout Motors will do it, but it's possible to have the airbag in front of...

Battery only or harvester.. starting to rethink it.

I don't think I'm working around any limitations in the Lightning because it's a BEV. We switched to driving at approximately 72 mph with the Tacoma and a Golf Alltrack after I ran a series of tests and calculations to establish the optimization of travel time vs energy cost. It's a limitation...

What is one feature you hope Scout will include that has not yet been shown?

While this is just a conceptual drawing from early on, they have always intended for the tow loops to be for recovery and frame-mounted.

    Scout delayed??

I don’t have “for transportation” data, nor have I bothered to clean up the data enough to be certain of the meanings of the kinks and inflections, but here a plot of the equines per human vs the automobiles per human in the US from 1850 to 2010. Sources are: USDA, the FRED Federal Reserve Bank...

    Higher Range

Just trying to help people understand the reality of BEV driving. :) In the past week, due to a series of family emergencies, my vehicles have been driven on a 900 mile round-trip road trip (Mustang) and then seven (so far) 250 mile round trip trips down off and back up the mountain for non-fun...

    Higher Range

This is the thing. A 500 mile vehicle is a waste of 50%--90% of the battery for the vast majority of use cases. Having lived with BEV only for almost 90,000 miles, half on road trips in the charging desert of the Southwest, I would prefer a 300 mile range and a couple more DCFC stations in a few...

To be clear, there were several EREV series plugin hybrids in the US before Scout's resurrection was even announced. BMW i3 REx, Chevy Volt, Fisher Karma, Cadillac ELR, and others.

    Charging while driving…Wild, irresponsible speculation...

I don't know anything about BMWs, but I think this was a plug-in hybrid, so the solar charger seems way overkill for such a small battery.

Just the other day I watched a model x on FSD (it's like LSD but for vehicles) try to change lanes into a utility trailer towed by a pickup truck. The driver had to fight the system to avoid a crash. The lazy programming, anti-LIDAR nonsense, and arrogant stance of the brand is doing more to...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

LFP isn't going to dramatically change the range/efficiency for the same battery capacity in most normal driving. Temperature can have a different impact on the two different chemistries. NMC will perform better for both range and acceleration in the very cold (-20 ⁰C or colder). LFP...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

The EREV... Assuming a 15 gallon tank and a similar electric efficiency as the BEV, the mpge could be as low as 29-30 mpge. 150 miles at 84.3 mpge = 1.8 gallons 350 miles at 23.3 mph = 15 gallons 500 miles ÷ (1.8 gallons + 15 gallons) = 29.8 mpge

We should be clear that there are big differences between vehicles that are good for highway, off-highway, off-roading, and rock crawling. You don't want excessive articulation when driving on 99.99% of the roads 99.9% of the people in this country drive on. You don't need excessive articulation...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

They can. Depends on the manufacturer, maybe on laws, but I'm not familiar with the details. I think the Lightning has a governed speed on 107 mph. I think the Mustang's is 115-125, depending on the trim.
