  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    R2 Launch Watch

That’s 335 miles / 87 kWh = 3.9 miles/kWh. That’s not bad for a brick. That’s better than our Mustang (3.4 miles/kWh EPA and on the freeway), so if we had that and were as successful at getting full range in it as we are in the Lightning and the Mustang, road trips would be about 85% the cost in...

    R2 Launch Watch

After the Lightning cancellation announcement, I turned off OTAs on the Lightning and the Mustang. The Mustang is requesting an update, but it’s not giving me the information necessary for me to agree to it. Sometime soon I’ll spend some time researching on the forums what that update does.

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I suspect Scout already has a small team of engineers working in a “skunkwerks” program to look at their second generation models. Ford had at least eight different possible battery configurations pre-programmed into their main computer module in the Lightning. They only made use of two (maybe...

They don’t care about selling the vehicles. They’re upset that they’re losing control over manufacturers and consumers. Not once in the past 42 years did any VW dealer demand that VW start making the VW Rabbit Pickup again.

    Trim level options

As far as I’ve seen, we don’t have any information indicating that to be the case.

    Trim level options

Rivian just recently released the trim options for the R2 and their availability dates, with the soonest one available to order in the next couple of weeks. If Scout follows Rivian’s lead, we won’t know about trims until sometime mid- to late-2027. I would guess around June-September 2027.

    Higher Range

Those who understand the engineering know how to get another 100 miles of range. There are two basic options: Reduce energy use while traveling or increase energy carried by the vehicle. There are multiple ways to reduce energy use: Reduce wind resistance Make the scouts with a smaller front...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

We did Death Valley a few years ago just fine in our 312 mile Mustang Mach-E from northern AZ through Las Vegas. Las Vegas was the last DCFC we were able to use. We had a 140 mile one-way drive from LV to DV. This was during the wet season when the Badwater Basin had a lake. It was busy. But...

    Spare Tire, Backpack, or Bald?

I think that was speculation by other forum members, not Scout employees.

Where my foodies and food nerds at

It's basically the same. The proteins aren't identical, so it is slightly different. Needs an extra bit of time to thicken compared with milk. Maybe a touch more flour too.

Where my foodies and food nerds at

DW asked me to make nachos tonight. If you’ve never made your own nacho sauce, you need to do it. It’s easy. A simple roux, some good seasonings, some milk and some cheese. I used soy milk, but real cheddar. It was fantastic.

    Off-topic stuff…

I know exactly where you are with fighting against the anti-research sentiments right now… It sounds like you’re putting together a cool proposal! Best of luck to you and the proposal team! I’ve run a large number of instrument development proposal review panels (for NASA, not EPA or NSF)...

Ah, okay! So the goal is to run this in the field? If it’s automated and in the field, then a thermoacoustic might work well with a solar concentrator since there’s so little energy requirement for thermoacoustic. But to get down to -78 C, you would need a fairly high-temperature hot side of...

    Off-topic stuff…

Very neat! What’s the ultimate goal of your device? I would imagine you’d get similar vibration from the acoustic device as well. But that would all depend on the experimental setup. Your Stirling will be far more efficient. And I suspect it’ll be easier to isolate the vibrations of the...

    Off-topic stuff…

It turns out that BYD developed one to use waste heat and the noise from their engines to provide refrigeration in their vehicles. But I don’t think it ever made it to production. Most thermoacoustic systems are still operating with a coefficient of performance below 1.0; air-source heat pumps...

Are you saying I’m an oddball? First I get ribbed for playing D&D and now because I know about various heat engines?! Okay, you’re right.

    Off-topic stuff…

You can build one yourself, but the efficiency will directly depend on the size of the stack layer and its performance will depend on the amount of heat you have available. https://www.acs.psu.edu/drussell/publications/thermodemo.pdf https://arxiv.org/pdf/1610.00210 This model uses a standing...

    Off-topic stuff…

The thermoacoustic heat engine uses the Stirling cycle to achieve its cooling (or heating), so in most ways it’s similar to a Stirling engine. We used one on the Space Shuttle Discovery as an experiment. https://newatlas.com/soundenergy-thermoacoustic-cooling/58169/ A company that makes...

Excellent! I’m so glad a group found you and you found a group! Some of my original D&D friends played with the original author of The Curse of Strahd, Tracy Hickman when they lived in the SLC area back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I always look forward to a new character… So much...
