  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

Also, because Scout is planning to use the NACS port, you will need two adapters to use most charging stations in the US and Canada. You’ll need an adapter for DC charging and a separate adapter for AC charging. This is basically going to be the reality for the next decade or two despite the...

Regarding charging speed. Unless you have no choice, you want to limit your charging on DCFCs to road tripping or other times when you really NEED a quick charge. They’re expensive and they’re limited in supply. There are 78,300 Level 2 charging stations in the US and Canada, compared with...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

“Supercharger” is a brand name for DC Fast Charger. About half of Superchargers are available to cars that aren’t brand-T. The others are only available to brand-T. DC Fast Chargers (abbreviated DCFC) is a category of charging stations that includes Superchargers, but is not limited to those...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Usually when we're charging an EV overnight, we use a little bit of our backup battery, but not all of it. We rarely draw from the grid. Last night I had the truck on the 80A charge for 55kWh added. And the Mustang on the 48A charge for 50kWh added. That brought our 64 kWh backup battery from...

Heat Pump / Pure BEV / Winter Performance (and Battery Chemistry)

Maybe I misread the posts here? Rivian Gen2 uses LFP for the Standard battery pack but NCA for its large and max packs. NCA is an interesting choice over NMC. It's more expensive and more prone to thermal runaway, but also more energy dense and has better discharge performance. I seem to...

Realistic TTM date for traveler BEV?

It'll be available when it's ready. Given an option between rushed and a delay, I would prefer a delay to make sure the vehicles have been as tested as reasonable rather than a half-baked rush job. I'm not looking for perfection. But would prefer "enough time to make it good" rather than...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Just got home tonight with 58% charge. Will be at 100% well before tomorrow morning when we leave for another 250 mile day. Thank the engineers for Level 2 charging.

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

The past month or so has been a wild ride. I think we're up to about 15 round trips of 250+ miles, a half-dozen round trips of 125 miles each. Multiple times we had a single night to recharge two BEVs from 30% to 100%. Only stopped at a DCFC a couple of times. Just lots of Level 2 charging at...

What's it like to take a road trip in a truck like the Terra (F-150 Lightning)?

Beginning tomorrow, we’ll be at two years of ownership of the Lightning. tl;dr: It’s been the best vehicle we’ve ever owned. But we still have no plans to buy another Ford. This is because we’re all BEV and will stay all BEV and I don’t believe I can trust Ford’s C-Suite to lead their engineers...

Heat Pump / Pure BEV / Winter Performance (and Battery Chemistry)

I don't know of any manufacturer who has heated seats or steering wheel that isn't resistive heat. The potential problems with any other method are...a lot.

I wonder why they chose Baker instead of Barstow as their first installation. Maybe they want to iron out the kinks before adding a busier location? The Baker location is too far out of my way, but I’d happily pay their full rate to use the chargers if they had a couple along I-40 instead of I-15.

Heat Pump / Pure BEV / Winter Performance (and Battery Chemistry)

The winning part of heat pumps is efficiency. They can heat the entire cabin’s air mass for 1/5 (or less) the energy cost of a resistive heater. The winning part of resistive is only if it’s not intended to heat the entire cabin’s air mass, but rather direct heat to specific locations (seat...

Heat Pump / Pure BEV / Winter Performance (and Battery Chemistry)

What tool are you using for this analysis? I agree with your broad conclusion. If I were in charge of Scout’s thermal management engineering, I would also play around with models for small, directed radiant (resistive) heat in much the same way another manufacturer is doing. I can’t remember...

    R2 Launch Watch

Wheels are one of those items that only matter to me in function. I want highly-drag-efficient wheels that are as light as possible while holding the tire and carrying the vehicle’s weight. I couldn’t care any less about their appearance.

    Brake pedal behavior: Preference?

If you haven’t felt 1-PD with a strong regen, it’s very much like driving a manual and just lifting your foot off the accelerator without touching the clutch.

    Scout delayed??

With all the ai slop everywhere, maybe it’s time to start writing reviews of each of our Scouts that have already been delivered. Really confuse the people who aren’t capable of evaluating the real vs the generated.

But ai says Scouts will be delayed until 3241. How can we trust a human?

    Brake pedal behavior: Preference?

I guess for me 1-PD is so much like driving a stick shift, floating gears, and jake braking that it’s kind of nice to get back to that after so many automatic transmissions.

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

I’ve been driving 250 mile trips a couple times a week and needed to accomplish something with my hands... So I installed the 270 degree awning that’s been sitting for a while. I’m not positive I’ll leave it hanging over the rear like this. But if I do shift it forward, I’ll need to raise it so...
