  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

Dude, this is exactly how diesel electric locomotives work. They pull millions of pounds of cargo for hundreds of miles. Series hybrids have been around since 1881. https://accelleron-industries.com/charge-magazine/how-do-diesel-electric-trains-work-and-why-do-they-need-turbochargers

Charge that battery up in like 3 minutes! ...and then blow the engine, just like in the GR Corolla. o_O:p

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

The term "hybrid" has a regulatory meaning. The Harvester option could very well require classification of the vehicle as a Hybrid.

Scout Dimensions Updated On Our Website

@Jamie@ScoutMotors will the spare tire carrier be easily removable? Overall length is pushing it for my garage, but without it, it would definitely fit. I'd store it until I needed it.

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

It's not a weird experimental engine - it's in use and on the market today. For generators that sit outside a building or a home, you're correct - energy density isn't a concern. But when you're packaging into a vehicle, or an airplane, with NVH concerns and a desire to maximize things like...

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

You are asking to design a system that is both series electric and parallel electric, switchable between both. There's no free lunch, as we say in the systems engineering world. This is difficult and expensive, because electricity in some ways is like water. If you have a high-pressure pipe and...

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

And diesel-electric locomotives and city buses have been using this technology for many decades. The engineering and operational employment of series hybrid engines is well established.

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

BMW made the choice they did because of vehicle classification rules - they have even stated that sizing the engine larger or giving it a larger tank would have tipped a balance toward range being provided under ICE power, and the vehicle would have been classified as a hybrid, driving...

How much personalization/modification ability do you want to see in the new Scout?

LEDs don't take up very much battery power, but the ability to disable DRL in menu settings is available on many vehicles. They may just default to 'on' when you restart the vehicle on the next journey, though.

How much personalization/modification ability do you want to see in the new Scout?

The aftermarket is going to have to respond, and that's going to require SM to partner early with maybe one or two well known brands like ARB or Lucky8. Land Rover did this early with the Defender L462 before release, and that allowed time for the aftermarket developers to test and finalize...

    Please limit immediate resale.

Sorry, no. If you buy it, it's yours, especially if you pay cash up front. There won't be dealer markups because there won't be any dealers. If someone is going to flip one for 1.5x the purchase price and someone else is stupid enough to pay it, then well, fools and their money something...

I still get looks when I take my 2017 Discovery off-road. But then, the week I got it we were in the deep outback of Wyoming for the total solar eclipse, and literally five minutes after setting off for home afterwards, we pulled up behind a brand-new full-fat Range Rover on a seriously rugged...

This is a great idea, but also look at satellite direct to cell - I have this on my Pixel, iPhones have this, and I'm in the space industry and can tell you that in 2-3 years messaging support of not voice and message support (but not full 5G bandwidth) will be common. This will be table stakes...

Unfortunately this utopia is a pipe dream. Just like ICE engines - the harder the terrain, the lower the efficiency. Rivian has shown this through their racing in the Rebelle Rally - they may only get 1/4 rated range on really hard stages. Hills is hills, sands is sands, muds and rocks is muds...

Seems like the people have spoken, and loudly. I have a diesel Land Rover that goes everywhere and gets a bazillion miles of range. Torque is king for offroading, and nothing has more torques (to use a Clarksonism) than an EV. Sadly they don't sell the newest turbodiesel versions in the US any...
