  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    33 Months of EV driving...

This is my summary of our EV driving. We've been driving EVs for most driving since February 2022 when we picked up our Ford Mustang Mach-E (43,791 miles). We went all-EV in April of 2024 when we traded our Tacoma for a Lightning (11,748 miles). We've been to 10 states, and plan to go to at...

    Portable solar charger

Yeah, 5 miles per kWh in a truck/SUV is truly very optimistic, but maybe possible if you're really worried about range and you stick to 25-ish mph without much acceleration or elevation gain. If you're hoping for an additional 50 miles of range, and you can get an efficiency of 5 miles/kWh, that...

    Harvester Talk: Q&A

Here's a fun Easter egg for those speculating about the Harvester. The test mule is at 49% battery SoC, but hasn't dipped into the gas tank yet.

    Camp mode

Here's one for those speculating about the harvester... On this test mule, the battery state of charge is 49% and it hasn't started using the range extender enough to go below 100% in the fuel tank.

    Camp mode

One of the things that I wish was easier to change on the Lightning and Mustang is the lighting modes. I'd love a mode where approaching a vehicle doesn't trigger the surrounding light, opening a door doesn't turn on the dome lights, etc. I would call it "Do Not Disturb" Mode or, yes, "Camp Mode."

    Too much AI

This is the thing with "autonomous" driving. It's unpredictable. And unpredictable is already available to us through other drivers (and ourselves), the road conditions, animals, etc. Why pay extra for additional unpredictability? I use Ford's Blue Cruise Hands Free on long trips to ease the...

    Portable solar charger

The main issue with solar is that you'll also need an accessory power station unless you can carry enough panels to either: Generate >800 volts (in the Scout; 400 in a Lightning) at a decent amperage for direct DC charging--this is just not going to happen. Generate >1.4 kW constant power with...

EV Fires - Did You Know?

As someone who trained as a first responder, including for vehicle fires, I was--rightfully--told that if I ever had to respond to a vehicle fire, I was likely being called for clean-up, not rescue. Most vehicle fires typically are fully engaged before a response team can get there. Given that...

    Removable Rear Seats

I'm a fan of both. I would prefer fold flat--truly flat--for most uses, but something that can be unbolted without too much extra work would also be great when I need the extra space.

    Questions about the Harvester

I'm certain it won't. Not sure what that statement was about, probably just pulling numbers out of thin air. In my Lightning (320 miles epa estimated range), I can get well over 500 miles cruising at 35 mph and well over 400 miles in realistic city driving. On the freeway my range is generally...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I'm an absolute gear head. But I experience very little nostalgia, so I'm always looking for the next thing to try. EVs will keep me busy for a good long while. Unfortunately I still have a couple of tools that I can't afford to switch to electric, like my tractor. I need to change the fluids...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Yep. I won't go back to ICE. Even selling my motorcycle because the Mustang is more fun to drive and doesn't require as many stops on a road trip.

    Harvester Directly Powering Motors?

If anyone who isn't at Scout can guarantee anything about the new Scouts, it's that going over 88 mph will not send you back in time.

Dedicated space for trash and tissues and overall cleanliness?

Solve two problems with one device.

    Spare tire discussion

My Lightning came with a smaller diameter spare--it's still full-size, but it's not the same size. This is despite the fact that the rear diff can be locked. It's best, in general, to have the same size spare, but for a short distance (50-ish) miles, it doesn't cause so much extra wear that it's...

    Harvester Directly Powering Motors?

You only have to worry about the time issue if you go above 88 mph. For most driving, you'll be fine.

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

That's a nice-looking Mustang! I think if Scout is looking to help with the transition to EVs, one thing they might do is provide data about how far the vehicle could go on all-electric even when the Harvester has been engaged. For example, the Lightning has a "here's how efficient you were...

    No regenerative braking!!!!!!!

Thanks, yes, I should have maybe said a bit more. With many EVs one can change the drive profile that basically adjusts what the accelerator position means. Usually 0% and 100% always mean the same thing, but manufacturers can do very different things between those end members, and they can...

We own EVs. Ask Us Anything.

I think this is mostly true unless someone's running with a 3/4 ton or larger truck--those beasts don't often see a huge decrease in efficiency with towing because they're already terribly inefficient. But a half-ton like the Tundra or Lightning will see a drop about equivalent. The biggest...
