  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

You’re already comparing a hybrid with a gas engine to just barely being more efficient than a diesel engine. But then when it comes to pairing a diesel engine with a hybrid platform it’s now unreasonable? To even bring up pollution and somehow think diesels are to blame is silly. The whole...

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

You are absolutely correct. To convince me to buy a hybrid you better be putting a diesel in there. 25mpg from a gas generator is not enough to be called “economical”. Compared to a regular gas vehicle even that’s pretty bad. Compared to a diesel vehicle it’s worst. I get 29mpg driving my 335d...

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

I’m not sure where you’re getting a diesel not doing well not being used regularly. I store my 335d every winter (6 months usually) and do nothing but change the oil and it’s back on the road. Any issues related to storing would be unrelated to the engine When you talk about a diesel with a dpf...

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

To be cheaper than a diesel generator for the same mileage you’d have to be paying under 20c a kwh for electricity. Which isn’t the case where I live in Maine. So depending on what your area charges for electricity you could theoretically just buy off road diesel and it would be cheaper to...

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

A generator running at a constant rpm and load would likely only need a DOC to meet tier 4 emissions

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

Just to add my 2 cents. The most efficient way fuel consumption wise to do a hybrid this way is to be able to fill the battery pack as fast as possible with the generator. So using the bare minimum kw output is a bad idea. That generator shouldn’t have to kick on for more than an hour to fill...

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

That’s very true, but it’s still usually cheaper to run considering how much more gasoline you have to burn. Although it could take awhile to offset when you factor in the price difference in generators. I would love to see the generator specs on the harvester option to see what the fuel...

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

Getting a generator to pass tier 4 emissions would not be nearly as difficult as it would be to get an engine that’s varying its rpm to. Likely the generator would need nothing more than a doc to pass

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

Bmw diesels are great without the emissions equipment. N47 & n57 are more reliable emissions wise.

They shouldn’t be so salty about what they did to themselves though

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

Bmw diesels are some of the best, arguably better than vw. I have two m57, and e70 & e90. They are absolute sleepers. There’s a tuner making over 1000hp & torque on stock internals, trans, and drivetrain with just bolt ons on the e90 platform.

I didn’t use the search function thoroughly enough. Still a shame though

Harvester generator gas and not diesel

I can’t be the only one who wishes the generator was a diesel and with ties to VW why are they not doing this? I understand the pros of using a gas engine… more compact, less money to implement, higher kw. Basically it’s easy to do and will get the job done But then the pros for a diesel are...
