  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Jump seats for the occasional 7-seater option

Wish we were talking bed of a truck. The Scout has all indications of being a 5 passenger SUV. The early LR Disco had jump seats that folded up against side panels in cargo area. I had a Colorado extended cab with similar jump seats. Extra passenger sits crossways. So OP is asking tor factory...

    MAX RANGE

Well the 2026 Rivian R2 suv is supposed to start at $45k and 300 mile range. And with at least one prototype viewable they might get my $100 reservation. Although at 45k it is probably 2wd. Scout Motors : we need to see a preproduction vehicle in the flesh and pricing to match Rivian.

    MAX RANGE

Instead of buying Scout batteries from parent VW at $8700 for 62 kW, they could. Buy. 70. KW MachE batteries from Ford for $6800 according to one site listing listing battery. Costs

The Road to Scout Production - All the latest updates in one place...

Every cmumity has its pluses. Even if Blythewood goes union the cost of living for the workers and thus the standard of living will be far better in SC than CA. $35/ hour in SC will put food on a small table whereas double that in LA won't provide even a table let alone food on it

    Right-hand side charging access

Or old school, hidden behind fold down license plate like my 70.5 camaro I should have kept

    Right-hand side charging access

My assumption is that charging ports are placed such that tge driver would see the cord plugged in as they enter the vehicle and be reminded to unplug before driving off stillbtethered although I also presume no EV can be driven or even 'fired up" when tethered. And only in Oregon would there...

    Hilux Champ 2-Door Inspiration?

I had a 2wd (all they came in circa 1978) HiLux back last century and I still contend there is a need for smaller trucks with less stuff. Traded up to a Chevy Silverado with Olds diesel.

    No regenerative braking!!!!!!!

Think what happens in your current ICE vehicle when you let of the fuel (gas, diesel, cng, etc) very few disengage the transmission for true coasting and may even be illegal to coast long distance with clutch disengaged or in Neutral. EV regen braking for the masses need be no more intrusive on...

    Electric back window

For bed extenders look at the VinFast Wild or the Canoo pickup. The Wild may never come to the US but has interesting features. 4 full doors with rear opening suicide style. Fold flat rear window panel like an Avalanche.

    Electric back window

No need for lift up hatch if rear window is frameless and descends cemetery into tailgate. The gate can even be hinged in 2 directions, swing down or swing right. This tech is 60 years old and came in several station wagons. Bonus points if you know what a station wagon is without Google, and...

    RECONSIDER EV

It can be difficult to find a tire service station that can work on runflats. It takes a different or more powerful tire machine. And nobody I found would even think of plugging a nail hole in a runflat (my experience) That being said, if an EV does not employ any different load rating tires...

Time to license Apple car tech?

I have been a huge fan of science fiction --- and autonomous vehicles--- for 60 years + (yeah, old as dirt) and there is a place for them. johnnycab from Total Recall or the self driving Audi from iRobot, each which required human override or the simple concept of individual pod vehicles...

Time to license Apple car tech?

That's assuming that Apple had any breakthroughs. I doubt it. Why else shutter it without shopping it around first. Granted it seems ludicrous at first for a mainly software and computer company to build cars but Rovian and even Tesla had zero background in building cars when they started...

    RECONSIDER EV

Why not in the frunk? Should be nothing there other than space

    Defender example

I was shopping Defender when I got my Bronco. Still have only opened roof to 1st position a few times.

    RECONSIDER EV

The name Scout may be familiar but Scout Motors is a brand spanking new from the ground up enterprise. No different than Polestar, Rivian, Tesla, Fiskar, Canoo. If VW group just wanted to produce a vehicle with different fuel options they would not have gone to this expense but just start...

The Road to Scout Production - All the latest updates in one place...

So it will be 2027 model year probably Waiting is aggravating without even a prototype yet.

    Rodents!

Had rodents eat through wiring harness to ignition coils on a BMW. Replaced ecm, 6 coils, etc all covered by insurance. There are miles more wires in an EV I would presume. Insulating wiring with distasteful ingredients might help

    RECONSIDER EV

To get VW to veer sideways from the 100% EV direction for Scout Motors would be like getting Elon Musk to offer Ford Coyote V8s in Teslas. Not gonna happen. The best that might be hoped for down the road might be extended range options with small 2 litre or less VW diesels to run a generator...

Top Five Accessories For The New Scout

Rear seat in the 80/800 was bench for 2 adults 3 skinny adults. Cannot recall if there were any seatbelts at all even up front. But 4 bolts and the rear seat was out. A quick release bracket on rear seat similar to what was on a Yukon we had for 3rd row. Unless rear seat can fold cpletely flat...
