  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

Here is what Car and Driver says (emphasis mine), which I personally consider a credible source:

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

How does regulation work? It influences the supply side only, by dictating how much of what can be approved for sale. When you mandate a certain schedule that requires a certain progressively higher corporate average fuel economy number, then automakers have to change the types and numbers of...

Speculation Alert - possible Harvester Engine Choices

Yep, that is cold. Not much will operate at those temps no matter what you do.

Many more now are monitored and status presented in Google Maps, but some are not.

    Modular battery pack design

Battery packs already are modular in that they aren't one giant battery, but they are either clusters of cylindrical cell batteries (like your trusty Duracell), prismatic cells (inherently structural but lots heavier and come with all kinds of fire and thermal risks), or pouch cells, which are...

    Modular battery pack design

Whole car batteries - yes, these are large and heavy. Battery pack modules - much smaller. Like individual slices of bread vs the whole loaf. Jaguar did this with their i-Pace batteries - an early attempt at making more serviceable battery packs and making them more sustainable. In the early...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

It cost me $1300 all in with installation to code, but I had sufficient capacity in my breaker box - not everyone will, and upgrading a home electrical system could be significantly more expensive. I bought a Blink HQ 200 smart charger. My state gave me a rebate on my taxes last year so I think...

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

Most utility companies publish their rate schedule, and have "peak" and "off peak" rates, as well as seasonal adjustments. Your rates, just like gas prices, vary around the country. Don't charge during peak hours, usually 4pm to around 8 or 9pm. Think of kWh as gallons - you have a 75kWh...

    Lithium Battery Firewall/extinguisher?

I was T-boned by a small sedan traveling 80mph thru a red light. Hit me like a home run, square on the B-pillar. I walked out of the trauma unit few hours later with nothing more than a cracked rib. My EV, a Polestar 2, has a collision emergency disconnect that physically severed the battery...

    Modular battery pack design

Design the battery system for maintainability/upgradeability. Battery modules (groups of cells) should be individually replaceable and the entire battery pack should be designed to minimize the effort necessary to replace it. This would ensure these vehicles will remain viable into their 2nd...

    Diesel Range Extender option please.

Actually, it was the California Air Resources Board, which perversely dictates standards for 16 states and thus the entire US.

    Adventure Key - NFC wristband

I would like to see a means to lock and immobilize the vehicle, while leaving the vehicle key inside. A great way to do this would be to have an NFC enabled passive key, say on a rugged, waterproof (100m) watch-like wristband, which is used to lock the vehicle, immobilize it, and temporarily...

    Highway Mode - RWD only

While driving at highway speed and making few turns, the front motor should be disconnected as a drive motor to enable more efficient highway cruising. If traction is limited (wheel slip detected with snow/ice/rain) or if acceleration is required (spirited driving or passing maneuvers), then...

    Feature Suggestions for Scout Engineering

"Highway Mode" - The vehicle should recognize when it's being driven on the highway - high speed, few turns - and automatically disconnect the front drive motor to become RWD only. My Polestar 2 does this, and this increases the range when driving on the highway by reducing consumption from...

    Battery Life in Winter

That stretch is pretty flat. I drive from Colorado Springs to Boulder and back on I-25, which has a very pronounced W-shaped elevation profile with nearly 2,000 feet of gross elevation change, about 1,000 feet net, and several stretches where I set the cruise at 82mph if there's no traffic. In...

    Battery Life in Winter

If I know I'm going somewhere, I precondition my battery and cabin. My Polestar has an option to set timers (time to make the donuts...) or control preconditioning manually. Just like remote starting an ICE vehicle, this turns on the climate control and the heat pump and begins warming the...

Any talk of crab crawl mode ?

Why would you want this? It's a gimmick.

    Lessons Learned on Range Anxiety

Not for me. I charge at home at night on my Level 2 - I pay six US cents per kilowatt hour. So if I go from 20kWh in the "tank" to 67.5 at my self-limited 90% SoC, it costs me a whopping $2.85 US per charge, which gets me about 150 miles of useable range driving around town for the week. I plug...

    Battery Life Cycle

Outlast the EPA-defined standard service life of the car, maybe. The EPA defines the Intermediate Useful Life of a vehicle to be 5 years or 50,000 miles. The Full Useful Life is defined as 10 years or 100,000 miles.
