  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Sure, but you’re applying logic to a system that at one point had a used F-150 Lightning Platinum priced at $193,000 and brand-T dumpsters being sold for nearly $300k. The possibility that Stellantis thought they could get in on those high prices wouldn’t surprise me.

I agree that there are weird things. I also wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what they expected the price to be.

Exactly. Most manufacturers selling vehicles in the US are helping dig their own global graves by retreating from the future, chasing weirdly irrelevant aspects of some successful vehicles, requiring subscriptions for so many things that should be default part of the purchase price, pushing...

I don’t know if this is real. According to the photo, the RAM Charger BEV Laramie was planned to cost $112k with a $2k destination.

Exactly all of this. I have worked on enough high-risk systems and in enough situations where assumptions could get someone killed that I will never trust an engineer who thinks a redundancy is unnecessary. I especially am losing trust in Rivian engineers after their nonsense rejection of...

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

    I couldn’t handle flatland, I don’t think.

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

Speaking of charging... We stopped once to get a charge about 2/3 of the way to our destination in a small, very remote town called Kayenta. We needed the restroom break and lunch. Instead of eating at the Burger King where the chargers were located, we walked to the nearby grocery store and...

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

Here’s another cellphone pic taken from above to show the 300 Watts of solar that was used to run the fridge in the bed of the truck. Totally not necessary on this trip since we had L2 charging at the first hotel and the townhome we rented in Moab. But it’s necessary to do shake-down runs when...

Scout Concepts At LA Auto Show, November 21-30, 2025

In this model, do you have an estimate for the volume of the backpack? For a potential fridge that might fit in the space? I’m guessing 20-30 liters, but it’s difficult to judge.

Agreed. But we’d have to replace the suspension with something new since I’d be adding about 400-600 pounds to the system. I’d prefer to start with the 80 series instead of cutting and welding a bunch of mounts on the 60.

Icon have a fantastic reputation. If we had had the money, we would probably be driving one of their FJ40 restomods.

I really prefer the 60 series length and width for the use-case we’re considering, which is local driving and off-highway use (probably trailered to some of the more distance locations such as Canyonlands). But the 80 series does have some advantages (as mentioned by @Chavannigans).

Definitely. It’s a long road to do any kind of vehicle restoration, though. And it would be lots of long stretches of nothing followed by bursts of activity. It’s also still way up in the air. It’s a fun idea, but I need to do a ton of research into safety systems. I have an almost...

Yeah, I would prefer the FZJ80 while my partner goes back and forth between the 60 and the 80 for the looks vs utility. I don’t care about what the vehicle looks like, just how it performs. And, really, it’s more about the 60-series vs 80-series and less about the very specific model number.

If I didn’t already have the Lightning, and a Tacoma-sized truck still isn’t on the docket, this would be my next pickup. If my Lightning fails for any reason, this is the only pickup I’ll consider (unless a Tacoma-sized truck with a useable interface is available).
