  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Where would you like to see the Traveler and Terra this year?

A tour of Route 66 and the state and national parks and monuments within a short distance of the Route would be amazing. https://www.theroute-66.com/parks.html

Where would you like to see the Traveler and Terra this year?

Northern AZ, Moab UT, and at inexpensive gatherings... Overland Expo has become so, so expensive for what it is.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I haven’t heard anything in a long time. I don’t think they excited investors enough to go very far. They have a LOT of graphics about their dozen or so potential vehicles. Most of those seem to be renders based on old Toyota pickups, VW Baja Bugs, Porsche, old Land Rovers, and other European...

Scout Concepts At LA Auto Show, November 21-30, 2025

Much simpler, IMO. It’s basically a separate option tech-wise from those I mentioned above and has been in development long enough that the tech inside is continually improving and is simple, single-purpose enough that the engineers have the operation figured out and they rarely experience...

There are several types of key cards that could be used. One is called a Wiegand card, which requires no internal power and is very difficult to steal, but isn’t reprogrammable. IMO, even though this is “old” technology, this is safer than many other options. But it’s more difficult to program...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

There are several discussions on the forum about power outages. A BEV like the Lightning (or Terra, maybe the Traveler) can provide quiet, reliable power to a home for a week or more without needing a recharge. Since you already have a home generator, you probably could go two weeks on the...

Ford's entire EV line other than the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 mild hybrid is vaporware. There aren't even any public concept drawings yet. And we're supposed to believe they're targeting spring of 2027 for production? I'll believe it when there are vehicles on dealer lots.

Harvester Battery Stage of Charge Question

I live at 7000 ft elevation so even discounting the downhill (because I have to come back up, and it's more expensive to climb than you gain going down), that's a 20% decrease to air density and wind resistance compared with sea level, which makes a huge difference. I run with my tires at near...

Harvester Battery Stage of Charge Question

Anyone who drives deliberately can get better than the EPA rating on any vehicle. I regularly get 2.5 miles/kWh in the Lightning on the freeway. The battery is 131 kWh usable. That’s 328 miles freeway. I regularly get >3 miles/kWh around town. That’s > 390 miles range. The EPA rating is 320...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

I’ve posted my pessimistic prediction in several threads. It’s based on the timing of several other new model releases, both from established manufacturers and from new manufacturers. I suspect there will be a handful (a few hundred to a few thousand) Scouts rolling off the factory floor any...

F-150 Lightning with 200,000 miles in 3.5 years. No degradation, no loss of range, no malfunctions. The owner charges to 100% every day because it’s a standard range and they need the range. They drive 200-300 miles/day, 6 days a week.

    Mirrors

Ideal for me would be mirrors that can fold via motors under normal operations and mirrors that can be removed entirely within a few moments so I can take the Traveler through some of my favorite slot canyons. Those extra inches even while folded make for sketchy traversing of several trails...

A google translation is in the quote block below. Several things: First, an unsourced commentary isn’t exactly reliable. Second, delays happen all the time in the auto industry. I’ve been fully expecting August 2028 to be the likely date of major volume deliveries of Scouts. Earlier deliveries...

Having multiple options is the best approach: Fob, card, wrist band, phone, whatever else. I would be okay with a card or fob, but won't use my phone as a key. That option has too many failure modes for me.

Help me decide BEV or EREV

If the donor vehicle is set up for it, it’s super easy to donate extra electricity. If you bring along a 5 kWh power station, it’s even easier to provide a bit of extra charge. I’ve given spare charge to friends who were low. In one case, they called me from the road and asked if I could give...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

I don’t think we can use tractors as the example. The parameter space of efficiency vs power vs longevity is a different set of trade-offs for tractors vs gensets. We might be able to use small diesel-electric hybrid locomotives, but I’m not familiar with their trade-offs. Most gasoline...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

Expanding on this a bit... If you assume something similar (20 mpg for a modern gassy truck), and a 20 gallon tank. Also assume the standard 5,000 miles service interval. 5000 miles / 60 miles/hr =~ 83 hours. I would guess the Harvester genset will have a service interval of around 100 hours...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

I don't have a good idea, but we can make some educated guesses and build an estimate. Let's assume someone gets 85% of the EPA range estimate at 60 mph. 0.85 * 500 = 425 miles total. 0.85 * 350 = ~300 miles on gas. Assuming a 15 gallon tank, that's 300 miles / 15 gallons = 20 mpg. The BYD...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

That's good news for people who want the Harvester. Not that I have anything negative to say about the engine---we had a one in the last ICE Volkswagen we had and it was great. But I think it's good to take a look at what's needed and what's not needed in the specialized application of an EREV.

    Wheel size options

Getting a 17k pound GCWR would be tough with rotors small enough to safely accommodate 17" wheels.
