  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Be careful—the alcohol can damage the seals on the reservoir. Ask me how I know.

Harvester Battery Stage of Charge Question

It’s hard to say without knowing more details about the fuel and ignition management systems they’ll employ. My guess is at least a 5% decrease in power and efficiency for the Harvester at 5000 ft elevation, but up to 20%. It’s too wide of a range to be useful without more knowledge.

    Off-topic stuff…

I haven’t seen the internals of the Rivian system, so I can’t speak to the details. Very, very basically, with a couple semesters’ worth of caveats: it’s possible to “disengage" certain electric motors (permanent magnet) by supplying just enough power to make them “freewheel” at the speed the...

We do ours about every…never. Even though we live on a dusty gravel road. I’m too lazy to bother with it.

    Off-topic stuff…

I’ve had no increased tire wear. My Lightning’s tires are lasting longer than the tires on my Tacoma did, despite the big difference in weight. Similarly for the Mustang. Most of the EV tires I’ve shopped for have had 50k to 80k mile warranties, just like other tires. This myth needs to expire...

    Ideal Small Sized Vehicle

They basically are, just updated for today’s style cues! ;) I think you mean the classic styling as much as the size. I bet with a bit of clever wrapping, the Traveler could be made to look a lot like the Travelall. Here’s some ai slop approximating that. Needs chrome wheels and a piece of...

This is also explained a bit in that video. The F1 organizers are struggling with the tension between the advantage the lead car gets from dirty air and the excitement and money made if there’s less of an advantage for the lead car and the car behind can overtake. This adjustable wing isn’t...

    Ideal Small Sized Vehicle

Agreed. I would prefer smaller than my post suggested, but I didn't know if it would sell. It's probably time to remind people that the largest IH SUV, the Travelall, was smaller than the 2028 Scout Traveler will be. Width Length WB Traveler 80 190 w/o spare 120 Travelall 78 187 119

About the size of a 1979 Scout II Traveler. 180-184 inches long 118 inches wheelbase 71-74 inches wide 65-67 inches tall 9-12 inches ground clearance 350 miles range

Help me decide BEV or EREV

The sun will come out when I'm on a trip, and it's not safe to climb up onto the icy roof in the 60-80 mph gusts we had today, so I'll set up the truck to provide power if necessary. Note that it's not currently necessary to use the truck since the grid hasn't actually failed. I could charge...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

We’ve been in winter storm conditions with no sun for the past ~70 hours, with temperatures below freezing for the past 68 hours. The whole-home batteries (62 kWh) were fully charged before the storm rolled in. The Lightning is at 85% and the Mustang is being used every day but has not been...

Where would you like to see the Traveler and Terra this year?

I’ve tried equivalents, but I’m not in the iOS ecosystem. They have been okay in limited situations, but they don’t help me in a restaurant or other noisy locations.

One of the many, many reasons I won’t even consider a hybrid, much less an all-ICE vehicle is the PITA of maintenance. It’s not even necessarily the dollar costs, which are outrageous. It’s the time to get it done. We drive 15k miles / year on each vehicle, so it would be something we had to...

Where would you like to see the Traveler and Terra this year?

I’m partially deaf from being raised by someone who was idiot about hearing protection. Didn’t wear it for firearms, chainsaws, power tools, concerts, music, etc., But hearing aids give me incredibly bad migraines. One of the best things ever for our 30+ year relationship is the reduction in...

Yearly maintenance costs have been increasing for a while now, but have seen a steep jump in the past 6 years. The index is 1982-1984. 2025-2026 costs were about 4.5 times greater than 1982-1984 costs.

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Except a person with the mental acuity to stop and think that through wouldn’t be a cult member…. That’s one of the reasons cults work so well. From the outside, they’re obviously counter to reality and logic, but people get so emotionally attached to an identity that they stop thinking clearly.

Harvester Battery Stage of Charge Question

Generally without a stabilizer, gasoline shouldn’t be used after it’s been exposed to the atmosphere for more than 1-6 months, depending on the amount of ethanol in it. Sitting in a pressure-sealed gas tank counts as having been exposed. For most fuels, it’ll be bad within 3-6 months. In other...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

The cultish behavior coming from some Rivian owners is starting to become concerning. We don’t need to celebrate even the rumors of failure of innovative companies. The Rivian is entirely outside of the price range of most people in the US, so it makes no sense for their customers to think a...
