  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    Onboard air compressor

With the proper setup, the industry-leading ARB twin cylinder air compressor can refill four 35" tires from about 16 PSI to 36 PSI in about 5 minutes. The higher pressures take quite a bit longer. Single piston compressors from the past would take 20-30 minutes. If there’s an onboard air...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

If we can afford one, there’s a chance. We have to see them in person. On paper, the Traveler is too wide. Clearly nobody is making an approx 70-75-inch wide BEV SUV with off-road capabilities and a useable UX/UI any time soon. We have some time to wait, so we’ll see. Maybe Toyota will recover...

I had high hopes for the R2, but don't think it'll be what we are interested in. Their engineers are too stuck in the "software-defined" everything paradigm. That's not an approach that works for us. We'll test drive one, but I fully expect we'll cancel our reservation.

The Lightning’s frunk isn’t uncomfortable. I expect the Terra’s to be about the same, and would guess the Traveler’s isn’t much smaller. https://community.scoutmotors.com/threads/bigger-frunk.2776/post-45992

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

Some brief statistics: Total miles Driven: 1277 miles Total energy used: 450 kWh Average efficiency: 2.8 miles/kWh Approximate average mpg equivalent: 96 miles/gallon Average range on a full battery: 367 miles (2.8 * 131) Maximum speed limit: 65 mph Total cost for energy: $83.04, including...

As much as I despise dealers, If a BEV 4Runner or Tacoma with 330+ miles EPA were available, I couldn't care less what color it came in. That's what wraps are for.

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

It’ll take me some time to write up. For now, I’ll just say: I really, really want a true off-road capable BEV SUV. I’m afraid the Traveler will be too big. The R1S is too big. The R2 doesn’t appear to be the right solution.

    Accelleration

They're more than 20% more expensive than my first house. And federal minimum wage has only been increased once since we bought that first house...

It'll most likely get around 2.4 in the EPA test. I can get up to 2.5 on the freeway in the Lightning at 7000 ft elevation (~20% better than at sea level).

These numbers make sense. The Scout is likely to get 2.4 miles/kWh in EPA estimates, so 150 miles is reasonable. The RAM is likely to pretend to be more powerful than necessary, so it's likely to get 1.6 miles/kWh. To me, 93 kWh to go 145 miles is believable. Dumb, but believable. The Scout...

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

Google Earth. But it's a multi-step process if I have more than two end points in the route. I build the route on Google's "my maps" website, export a KML file, open that in Earth, then combine the route into a single multigeometry. I wrote a tutorial, but would have to dig around for it...

I made a better image to show the charger accessibility and the population density together.

Edit. What I posted was about the Travelall, not the Electrall. The Travelall trademark is available. The Electrall name doesn’t appear to ever have been trademarked.

Moab / Canyonlands NP / Arches NP trip in a Terra-like Electric Pickup (F-150 Lightning)

I’m leading a small group back (small enough to fit in the Lightning) to NAZ, Southern UT, Moab, Canyonlands, Arches, etc. for a geology and photography field trip and shaking out a new venture. This will be about 1000 to 1500 miles round trip. We’ll stay at hotels where there are L2 chargers or...

Consumer Freedom and Scout Motors in South Carolina

Any extended warranty that requires extra payment is, on the whole, better for the house than for the player. The house always wins is a cliche for a reason. Do players sometimes win? Sure. Otherwise the house wouldn’t be able to keep players coming back nor would it be able to attract new...

Consumer Freedom and Scout Motors in South Carolina

We reject all of the extended warranties, gap insurance, the $20 extended warranty on a TV, etc., etc., etc. We’ve been putting all of the money we don’t spend on those nonsense products into investments. I added it up recently and rejecting all of those scams and investing the money instead is...

    Define your lifestyle….

I don’t really know what to say about my lifestyle. Started life off-grid...rancher, farmer, scientist, explorer, overlander, hunter, photographer… Vehicles are tools for me, so I don’t really “get” the lifestyle aspect of them. If the seat can’t hold up to my muddy jeans butt with a...
