  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

    We are Scout Motors.

Help me decide BEV or EREV

I mentioned/requested this a while back. While I would LOVE for this to be a thing (converting a EREV to a BEV), I'm thinking this seems relatively unlikely. On the same vein, I'd also really love to see an option to swap to different batteries in the future (like if in 10 years, solid state...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

I just did the math on this. EDIT, small change, found the Ioniq 9 was showing total energy used, not what was charged. TLDR: WA to UTA, and back (~1800 mile round trip, ignoring local driving at the destination) fueling/charging costs. BEV (Hyundai Ioniq 9): ~$345 Hybrid (Hyundai...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

I understand a lot of the feels here. And I also don't think I could buy an all gas vehicle anymore. The EREV is much better than the PHEV here, because effectively "all" local driving becomes EV only (at least for me). And one of the main draws for me for an EV, is the lower running costs...

Help me decide BEV or EREV

TBH, I'm still split on this. Currently reserved for Harvester, but it might change. Reserved Harvester because: Primary family vehicle at the time was a Tucson PHEV, with only 30 miles of range... but we have loved it. Take road trips every year from WA to UT, where we do ~900 miles in one...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

Absolutely they will. And for good reason. Lane centering is more or less table stakes these days. You get free lane keep assist on the base model $26k Hyundai Elantra these days. And I have it on my 4 model year old Tucson PHEV. This 100% has to be the reason. And is another reason that...

    Off-topic stuff…

Meanwhile, in the PNW... its dry. Unseasonably dry. Like, its been sunny and dry for over a week now (0.01in of rain in the past week according to my acuweather weather station). And unseasonably warm (highs in the mid 50's). Looks like this week is cooler, but the temps are closer to normal...

    Where's everyone from? Part 2

“From” is hard to define. I’ve moved around a lot. Even IRL when asked this question I have no idea how to answer. Born one state, grade school in another, middle school in another, high school another, college, first job, another, another, etc. In the PNW (Washington) right now, and have...

    Traveler Spare Tire

I took the garage door opener off of my sun visor, so then I couldn’t muscle memory it. I have a super ghetto “hang off the back of the jeep off the crossbar and rear glass” diy bike rack made of2x2’s and a 1x6 piece of pressure treated wood (made it during Covid, out of literal scraps, I was...

    Traveler Spare Tire

I said this at the reveal, but will keep mentioning it. Bikes on roof racks are the worst of all options, almost always. As you mentioned, access is a problem. Remember that the rack has to start above the crossbars, and the crossbars are also a few inches above the roof. But beyond that...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

Right now, they're all suuuuper expensive. IIRC the Ford one was required to be installed by some third party, and was somewhere on the order of $4-5k to buy/install. More are coming, but TBH, the whole thing feels very "early days". I personally plan to wait a while, especially since I already...

    Extra, Extra....Read All About It!

One of the things I generally ask about when I meet people (when we get beyond the initial polite conversation stuff), is “what do you do for fun”? I find being an adult can sometimes, uh, sort of suck. And it’s easy to get worn down by the grind if you don’t have something to add some pizzazz...

Factory Pick Up - Cost and what does it include?

No harm assumed, I get it. Some kids are crazy, some parents don’t care. It’s true. There could be some middle ground, with some children’s museum type exhibits (like a reproduction of an old dash mounted to the wall next to a new dash, a door/door panel from a scout 80 showing hand crank...

Using an EV for backup power in case of power outage

This is great. I have a similar setup at home, but currently missing the 240v output side of things. I currently have an Ioniq 9, which can also use the V2L adapter to access its 107kwh useable battery. The problem is its low output (120v x 15amps :/). I also have a manual transfer switch. I...

Factory Pick Up - Cost and what does it include?

So, I think I'm very much not the target market for the factory pickup. I live very far away (Seattle area of the PNW, about ~2850 miles or so away). And while I'm not afraid of a good road trip (we do 900 miles in 1 day a few times a year), the time/cost/effort of the trip + all the mileage on...

What would best EV (s) to rent for a day

Honestly, I'd try to find a Hyundai Ioniq, or Kia EV of some sort. One of the things I'd be interested in you testing out, is the different regen modes. Teslas don't have adjustable regen anymore afaik. But on Hyundai/Kia vehicles its just right there on the "paddle shifters". So you can decide...

    Launch Edition

I think it would classify as "barely driven". And to be clear, I've owned it 20 years, but I bought it used in 2006 with 98k miles on it (1997 ZJ, 4.0L, 3in lift, 31's). So its almost 30 years old now. Was my college car, but also, I was poor, and lived close to campus and walked. Then my first...

    A Gift From Scout Motors

This one, or is there another that I was supposed to get? (just curious if I'm supposed to be hunting down others in spam) Thanks Jamie :).

    Launch Edition

Tesla tried to do "don't resell it within a year" thing with the Cybertruck, during that brief moment when used ones were worth a lot. AFAIK, it... might have worked... some? But we still saw it happening. But yeah, if we got $15000 off because of an early reservation + $5000 off because of...

    Launch Edition

Want? Is free an option? :P To be honest, the lower price end of the spectrum was close to my theoretical max at the time. We will have to see what things look like. But a $500-1000 discount or some tiny upgrade probably wouldn't make me convert the reservation into a order if things are...

    Launch Edition

I really expect these to be $85k or thereabouts, with how I suspect they'll be optioned (it seems most new vehicles like this get the high end trims out first). And this makes sense, especially with how volume at new factories/for new models scales. Start with the high end stuff with lower...
