  • From all of us at Scout Motors, welcome to the Scout Community! We created this community to provide Scout vehicle owners, enthusiasts, and curiosity seekers with a place to engage in discussion, suggestions, stories, and connections. Supportive communities are sometimes hard to find, but we're determined to turn this into one.

Additionally, Scout Motors wants to hear your feedback and speak directly to the rabid community of owners as unique as America. We'll use the Scout Community to deliver news and information on events and launch updates directly to the group. Although the start of production is anticipated in 2026, many new developments and milestones will occur in the interim. We plan to share them with you on this site and look for your feedback and suggestions.

How will the Scout Community be run? Think of it this way: this place is your favorite local hangout. We want you to enjoy the atmosphere, talk to people who share similar interests, request and receive advice, and generally have an enjoyable time. The Scout Community should be a highlight of your day. We want you to tell stories, share photos, spread your knowledge, and tell us how Scout can deliver great products and experiences. Along the way, Scout Motors will share our journey to production with you.

Scout is all about respect. We respect our heritage. We respect the land and outdoors. We respect each other. Every person should feel safe, included, and welcomed in the Scout Community. Being kind and courteous to the other forum members is non-negotiable. Friendly debates are welcomed and often produce great outcomes, but we don't want things to get too rowdy. Please take a moment to consider what you post, especially if you think it may insult others. We'll do our best to encourage friendly discourse and to keep the discussions flowing.

So, welcome to the Scout Community! We encourage you to check back regularly as we plan to engage our members, share teasers, and participate in discussions. The world needs Scouts™. Let's get going.

Right, it’ll give you plenty of warning. And I trust that. My question is more: can one purposely (or accidentally) drive the Harvester model without gasoline? And even recharge the battery but not refuel the tank. Leaving aside why one would want to do that, would the Harvester protect itself...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

At this point I do not believe Scout is planning to enable external charging while driving. No other vehicle has this as an option either. There are some people who claim to have figured it out for the Lightning, but I'll believe it when I see the technical documentation. Technically there's...

The Garage (What did you work on today?)

A whole home battery with 50A/120V output is something I’ve never seen. What’s the battery brand and model?

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I would get the charging cable installed and use the Wallbox for your home charger. A qualified electrician could do that in 10 minutes or less. For travel, I have the Ford-branded mobile chargers that came with my EVs, and they’ve worked well enough for me that I haven’t had to replace them...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

Is your Wallbox installed? The common 50A plug at RV sites is a NEMA 14-50. I carry a pile of adapters so I can plug into pretty much any receptacle, given permission.

“Apollo 12, Houston. Try SCE to AUX."

Today, 14 November, 2025 is the 56th anniversary of the launch of Apollo 12 from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The morning was overcast with light rain and mild winds. At 11:22 EST, the rocket launched, and the spacecraft carrying Pete Conrad, Dick Gordon, and Alan Bean began its climb out of...

We have a trip planned that was supposed to be for this past summer but will have to wait until sometime next year that will take us from northern AZ up through UT, ID, OR, and WA, then up into Canada. It’ll be mostly on 2-lane roads, some highways, and a bit of interstate freeway. The planning...

Thanks Jamie. I have a question for the opposite side of the coin: Do you have any information about whether and if so how long will a Scout with the Harvester be able to run if there is no fuel in the tank? Can it behave as an EV (albeit with a small battery), or will it go into some kind of...

Is there anything SM could offer to get you to switch from EREV to BEV?

I didn’t want to derail the original thread, so have resisted jumping back in. If someone wants to start a separate thread about stuff hitting the fan, I’d jump in with my experience, calculations, and opinions and would love to hear others’ experiences and thoughts. There are pros and cons and...

We’ve done the drive between Redding/Sacramento and LA (or Barstow and then east on the 40) and between SF and LA a dozen or so times. The only problem we ever faced was in 2022 and we took the 99 instead of the 5 from Sacramento to Barstow. Traffic was stop-and-go for hours, and several...

These are semi-solid, not fully solid. Semi-solid is more resistant than liquid to thermal runaway and other catastrophic failures, but not immune. They’re somewhat more energy dense than liquid electrolytes, but are not as dense as true solid. They are more expensive and more complex to...

There are only a few areas in the US where I would feel uncomfortable just getting into my fully charged Lightning or Mustang and going for a 3-day one-way road trip. Mostly chunks of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming. I would have to plan which route to travel across those...

Android Auto can. It can both read from the vehicle’s bus (if allowed by the manufacturer) and can send navigation information back to the vehicle. I can’t speak for Carplay—I’ve never used it.

Many manufacturers are attempting to create this technology. I work in the fields of computer vision 3D mapping and automated navigation (for spacecraft, but it’s not substantially different). I don’t trust the algorithms, nor the data acquisition enough to even feel comfortable being on the...

I wouldn’t waste my money on a manufacturer who wasted time and money developing things like fart sounds or “full self-driving.” If I wanted to sit in a farty vehicle that I’m not driving, I’d take Greyhound.

    Off-topic stuff…

I’m guessing. I’m public about my dislike of dealerships, including the tech departments. However... In this case, the Jeep technicians are in a difficult place: Jeep isn’t going to pay them to do a bunch of exploratory diagnostics, so they have to find/claim a problem, get the customer’s...

If they’re throwing parts at it, it’s going to take a long time to fix and will be supremely frustrating. :( I suppose the bright side is that you might get a bunch of new parts for a minimum cost? That communications DTC is where I would focus my efforts. I would pull out the communications...

I could forgive the ignorance in 2022, when the BEV Mustang was basically brand new. But now? It’s nonsense and unacceptable for a dealer not to be more expert than an enthusiast.

My partner made an appointment with the local Ford dealer to have some recall work done on the Mustang. This included: A seatbelt buckle replacement that has nothing to do with safety. Yawn. Have a bit of paint looked at in case it’s wearing poorly. Yawn. There’s a software mitigation for the...
